About the journal
The Kennedy Institute of Ethics Journal offers a scholarly forum for diverse views on major issues in bioethics, such as analysis and critique of principlism, feminist perspectives in bioethics, the work of the Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments, active euthanasia, genetics, health care reform, and organ transplantation. Each issue includes "Scope Notes," an overview and extensive annotated bibliography on a specific topic in bioethics, and "Bioethics Inside the Beltway," a report written by a Washington insider updating bioethics activities on the federal level. Kennedy Institute of Ethics Journal won an award for excellence in publishing in 2001 from the Association of American Publishers.

Manuscript submissions are encouraged from all responsible contributors regardless of affiliation with the Kennedy Institute of Ethics. All editorial correspondence, including manuscript submissions, should be addressed to:

Please submit four copies of manuscripts conforming to the following requirements:
The name(s) of the author(s) should appear only on a title page which should also include the author(s) affiliation and mailing address.
Enclose a biographical note of no more than 75 words.
Please supply an abstract of 100 or fewer words with your paper.
An abstract of no more than 150 words should precede the text of the manuscript.
References should be listed on a separate page at the end of the manuscript following the Chicago Manual of Style format for science manuscripts except that the full first name(s) of the cited author(s) should be included and all article, book, and journal titles should be capitalized. Citations in the text of the manuscript should appear in parentheses giving the author's last name, date, and page references, if any. Numbered endnotes should be reserved for substantive text and should be numbered consecutively throughout the manuscript.
Manuscripts should be typed or prepared on a word processor and, if possible, be accompanied by a computer disk. Word Perfect is preferred, but ASCII is acceptable.
The Kennedy Institute of Ethics Journal does not review books.
Editorial Statement
The Kennedy Institute of Ethics Journal is an interdisciplinary quarterly journal for the members of the Joseph and Rose Kennedy Institute of Ethics, Georgetown University. It publishes opinion and analysis dealing with social, ethical, and public policy aspects of bioethics and related areas of applied ethics. It presents varied points of view and encourages open debate on critical issues.
The Joseph and Rose Kennedy Institute of Ethics was founded in 1971 as a research and teaching center of Georgetown University to offer moral perspective on the major policy issues of our time. Institute faculty members represent a wide variety of academic disciplines, including philosophy, religion, medicine, social science, and law.
Membership in the Institute is open to all professional and lay persons interested in applied and professional ethics. In addition to the Journal, members receive: the quarterly bibliographical publication, New Titles; an invitation to participate in the Institute's annual meeting; and announcements of special book and course offerings. Annual membership is $53 for individuals, $107 for institutions and libraries, and $35 for students.
Call to Readers
To encourage responsible debate, the editors invite readers to submit written responses to articles published in the journal. Responses may be full articles or briefer, in the form of letters.
We also encourage readers to submit reports of significant new developments in areas previously covered in the journal.
