About the journal
Journal of Health Communication is a scholarly, peer-reviewed quarterly that presents the latest developments in the field of health communication, including research in social marketing, shared decision making, communication (from interpersonal to mass media), psychology, government, and health education in the United States and the world. The journal seeks to advance a synergistic relationship between research and practical information to help readers build a New Health Order. With a focus on promoting the vital life of the individual as well as the good health of the world's communities, the journal presents research, progress in areas of technology and public health, ethics, politics/policy, and the application of health communication principles. Qualitative and quantitative studies, ethical essays, case studies, and book reviews are also included.

Instructions to Authors
Submission of Manuscripts

Please consult recent issues of the Journal regarding our scope of coverage of health communication issues.
Authors must submit manuscripts on CD. The CD should be prepared using MS Word and should be clearly labeled with the authors?names, file name, and software program. A hardcopy printout that exactly matches the CD must be supplied. Please include the corresponding author’s e-mail address. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
Articles are requested to be no more than 5,000 words plus appropriate charts, tables, and references. All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of no more than 200 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text.
Manuscripts, including tables, figures, and references, should be prepared in accordance with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 5 th Edition. Copies of the manual can be obtained from the Publication Department, American Psychological Association, 750 First Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002-4242; phone (202) 336-5500.
Illustrations
Ilustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be digital files following these guidelines:
- 300 dpi or higher
- sized to fit on journal page
- EPS, TIFF, or PSD format
- submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality files should be pro-vided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.
Tables and Figures
Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included at the end of the document. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction.
Proofs
One set of page proofs is sent to the designated author. Proofs should be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours.
Reprints and Complimentary Copies
Each corresponding author of an article will receive 3 complimentary copies of the issue in which the article appears. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
