About the journal
The Journal of Consumer Psychology publishes articles that contribute both theoretically and empirically to an understanding of consumer judgment and behavior and the processes that underlie them. It is focused on consumer phenomena at both the intrapersonal and the interpersonal level. Areas of emphasis include, but are not restricted to, consumer judgment and decision processes, attitude formation and change, reactions to advertising, consumer information processing, affective cognitive and motivational determinants of consumer behavior, family and group decision processes, and cultural and individual differences in consumer behavior. Most articles to be published are likely to report new empirical findings, obtained either in the laboratory or in field experiments, that contribute to existing theory in both consumer research and psychology. However, the results of survey research, correlational studies, and other methodological paradigms are welcomed to the extent that the findings obtained extend our current knowledge of current judgment and behavior. Theoretical and/or review articles that integrate existing bodies of research and that provide new insights into the underpinnings of consumer behavior and decision processes are also encouraged.
Instructions to Authors
Content: Journal of Consumer Psychology (JCP) is devoted to the publication of research papers that contribute to our understanding of consumer psychology in all of its domains and all of its forms. The official journal of The Society for Consumer Psychology, JCP's goal is to advance consumer psychology as a dynamic discipline by disseminating knowledge generated and contributed by scholars from a variety of backgrounds, substantive fields, and methodological orientations. To this end, the Journal will publish papers providing theoretical analyses, critical reviews, original empirical reports, as well as methodological contributions that shape thought and practice in the discipline of consumer psychology.

Manuscript Submission: Manuscripts should be prepared following the style in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.). Effective July 1, 2005, articles to be considered for publication should be submitted electronically as e-mail attachments in Word format, and should be addressed to jcp@stern.nyu.edu. In the event that electronic submission is impossible, a hard copy of the article, accompanied by a diskette of the manuscript in Word, should be mailed to: Durairaj Maheswaran Editor-Elect, JCP 9-81, KMC Stern School of Business New York University New York, NY 10012-1126
All components of the manuscript should be typed double-spaced, including title page, abstract, text, quotes, acknowledgments, references, appendices, tables, figure captions, and footnotes. The abstract should be no more than 1,000 characters in length (counting spaces between words).
Blind Review: JCP follows a double-blind review policy. To facilitate anonymous review, only the article title should appear on the first page of the manuscript. An attached cover page must contain the title, authorship, and an introductory footnote with professional titles and mailing addresses of the authors and any statements of credit to research support. Every effort should be made by the authors to see that the manuscript itself contained no clues to their identities. Permissions: Authors are responsible for all statements made in their work and for obtaining permission from copyright owners to reprint or adapt a table or figure or reprint a quotation of 500 words or more. Authors should write to the original author(s) and publisher to request nonexclusive world rights in all languages to use the material in the article and in future editions. Provide copies of all languages to use the material in the article and in future editions. Provide copies of all permissions and credit lines.
Regulations: In a cover letter, authors should state that the findings reported in the manuscript have not been published previously and that the manuscript is not being simultaneously submitted elsewhere. Authors should also state that they have complied with American Psychological Association ethical standards in the treatment of their samples. The cover letter should summarize any prior history of the article's consideration by this journal under previous editorships. An article that has been rejected for publication by previous JCP editors will not normally be considered unless (a) the previous editor has explicitly suggested that it be resubmitted to the new editors, or (b) new data are reported that permits it to be evaluated as a new manuscript.
Accepted Manuscripts and Computer Disks: After manuscripts are accepted, authors (a) submit a disk containing two files (Word or WordPerfect, and ASCII versions of the manuscript), (b) make sure the content of the files exactly matches that of the printed, accepted, finalized manuscript (provide revised printout if necessary), (c) submit camera-ready figures, and (d) sign and return copyright-transfer agreement. It is the responsibility of the contact author to ascertain that all co-authors approve of the accepted manuscript and concur with its publication in the journal.
Production Notes: Files of accepted manuscripts are copyedited and typeset into page proofs. Authors read proofs to correct errors and answer editors' queries. Authors may order reprints of their articles when they receive page proofs. Printing considerations do not permit ordering reprints after authors have returned proofs.
