About the journal

The International Journal of Finance and Economics aims to publish articles of high quality dealing with issues in international finance which impact on national and global economies. While maintaining the high standards of a fully refereed academic journal, with technical, empirical and theoretical material, IJFE articles will also be accessible to non-specialists, policy-makers and practitioners. Each paper will be prefaced by a non-technical summary of up to 500 words and, on an occasional basis, IJFE will publish a feature article on a major issue in international finance, written at a non-technical, but academically rigorous, level. IJFE will concern itself with issues such as exchange rates, balance of payments, financial institutions, risk analysis, international banking and portfolio management, financial market regulation, Third World debt, European monetary union, the financial aspects of transition economies, financial instruments and international financial policy co-ordination. IJFE is aimed at practitioners, researchers and graduate students in:

  • international economics
  • international finance
  • financial economics
  • international political economy
  • financial analysis and treasury management
  • policy making.

Instructions to Authors

Manuscript Submission. The International Journal of Finance and Economics operates an online submission and peer review system that allows authors to submit articles online and track their progress via a web interface. Please read the remainder of these instructions to authors and then click http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ijfe to navigate to the International Journal of Finance and Economics online submission site.

All papers must be submitted via the online system.

File types. Preferred formats for the text and tables of your manuscript are .doc, .rtf, .ppt, .xls. LaTeX files may be submitted provided that an .eps or .pdf file is provided in addition to the source files. Figures may be provided in .tiff or .eps format.

Important information for authors using LaTeX. If you have used LaTeX to prepare your manuscript you should observe the following instructions:

  • Initial submission: For reviewing purposes you should upload either an .eps, .pdf or .rtf created from your source files.
  • Submission of a revised manuscript: When submitting your revision you must still upload an .eps, .pdf or .rtf for reviewing purposes. In addition you must upload your LaTeX source files. If your manuscript is accepted for publication we will use the files you upload to typeset your article within a totally digital workflow.

Authors must only supply by postal mail to the Editorial Office:

  • a Copyright Transfer Agreement with original signature(s) - without this we are unable to accept the submission, and
  • permission grants - if the manuscript contains extracts, including illustrations, from other copyright works (including material from on-line or intranet sources) it is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission from the owners of the publishing rights to reproduce such extracts using the Wiley Permission Request Form.

The Copyright Transfer Form and the Permissions Form should be sent to the editorial office that has received the submitted manuscript. The forms must be sent immediately following the online submission of your article.

Submission of a manuscript will be held to imply that it contains original unpublished work and is not being submitted for publication elsewhere at the same time. Submitted material will not be returned to the author, unless specifically requested.

Illustrations. Upload each figure as a separate file in either .tiff or .eps format, with the lead author's name, the figure number and the top of the figure indicated. Compound figures e.g. 1a, b, c should be uploaded as one figure. Tints are not acceptable. Lettering must be of a reasonable size that would still be clearly legible upon reduction, and consistent within each figure and set of figures. Where a key to symbols is required, please include this in the artwork itself, not in the figure legend. All illustrations must be supplied at the correct resolution:

  • Black and white and colour photos - 300 dpi
  • Graphs, drawings, etc - 800 dpi preferred; 600 dpi minimum
  • Combinations of photos and drawings (black and white and colour) - 500 dpi
Tables should be part of the the main document and should be placed after the references. If the table is created in excel the file should be uploaded separately.

Manuscript style. The language of the journal is English. All submissions including book reviews must have a title and have a margin of 3cm all round. Illustrations and tables must be on separate sheets, and not be incorporated into the text.

  • The title page must list the full title, short title and names and affiliations of all authors. Give the full address, including email, telephone and fax, of the author who is to check the proofs.
  • Include the name(s) of any sponsor(s) of the research contained in the paper, along with grant number(s).
  • Supply an abstract of up to 100 words for all articles [except book reviews]. An abstract is a concise summary of the whole paper, not just the conclusions, and is understandable without reference to the rest of the paper. It should contain no citation to other published work.
  • Supply a short non-technical summary of at most 500 words in order to make the research available to practitioners and non-specialists. The academic rigour of the paper should not be affected by this requirement.
  • Include up to fifteen keywords and, at most, two Journal of Economic Literature classification codes that describe your paper for indexing purposes.

Reference style. References should be quoted in the text as name and year within brackets and listed at the end of the paper alphabetically. Where reference is made to more than one work by the same author published in the same year, identify each citation in the text as follows: (Collins, 1998a), (Collins, 1998b). Where three or more authors are listed in the reference list, please cite in the text as (Collins et al., 1998)

All references must be complete and accurate. Online citations should include date of access. If necessary, cite unpublished or personal work in the text but do not include it in the reference list. References should be listed in the following style:

Dornbusch R. 1976. Expectations and Exchange Rate Dynamics. Journal of Political Economy 84: 1161-1176.

Mundell RA. 1968. International Economics. Macmillan: New York.

Illustrations. Supply each illustration on a separate sheet, with the lead author's name and the figure number, with the top of the figure indicated, on the reverse. Supply original photographs; photocopies or previously printed material will not be used. Line artwork must be high-quality laser output (not photocopies). Tints are not acceptable; lettering must be of a reasonable size that would still be clearly legible upon reduction, and consistent within each figure and set of figures. Supply artwork at the intended size for printing.

The cost of printing colour illustrations in the journal will charged to the author. If colour illustrations are supplied electronically in either TIFF or EPS format, they may be used in the PDF of the article at no cost to the author, even if this illustration was printed in black and white in the journal. The PDF will appear on the Wiley InterScience site.

Copyright. To enable the publisher to disseminate the author's work to the fullest extent, the author must sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement, transferring copyright in the article from the author to the publisher, and submit the original signed agreement with the article presented for publication. A copy of the agreement to be used (which may be photocopied) can be found in the first issue of each volume of the International Journal Finance & Economics. Copies may also be obtained from the journal editor or publisher, or may be printed from this website.

Further Information. Proofs will be sent to the author for checking. This stage is to be used only to correct errors that may have been introduced during the production process. Prompt return of the corrected proofs, preferably within two days of receipt, will minimise the risk of the paper being held over to a later issue. Two copies of the relevant issue of the IJFE will be supplied free of charge to each author of published papers. Further offprints and copies of the journal may be ordered. There is no page charge to authors.
