Instructions to Authors

European Journal of Political Research is a refereed journal publishing high quality academic articles of interest to European political scientists and practitioners. The EJPR welcomes submissions which develop and report significant new research from across the entire range of political science, theoretical and empirical, and especially those which address issues of cross-national importance. It is not in any way limited to work on Europe or by Europeans, but draws upon material about and from all parts of the globe.
European Journal of Political Research will publish articles by political scientists and other scholars engaged in political research. Preference will be given to articles of a broadly theoretical or comparative nature. The journal will also publish short research notes and review articles on significant books and other publications, as well as on current ongoing research in specific areas of political science.
Submission of manuscripts. To submit a manuscript to the European Journal of Political Research, authors should go to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ejpr, where they can upload the manuscript and all other material they would like to communicate to the editor. To upload a manuscript, the following files should be prepared:
(1) a title page or cover letter including the full names of the authors and academic or other professional affiliations; (2) an abstract of 500 words maximum; (3) the full text of the manuscript with a list of references and notes
Manuscripts should be in English.
Symbols and units. The conventions for abbreviations of units and symbols are those recommended by the British Standards Institution (leaflet B.S. 5775).
References. Use the Harvard style of referencing. In the case of books and chapters in books, and chapters in books, the reference should include details of the publisher and the place and date of publication; in the case of journal articles, the references should include details of the volume and issue number of the journal, as well as the page numbers. Page numbers should also be indicated in references to chapters in books.
Tables and Illustrations should be submitted as separate files, with their location notes in the text. The publisher will typeset the tables; graphs and diagrams (illustrations) must be in a form suitable for reproduction without retouching. Table and figure references should be in a consistent style: (e.g. Table 1 note Table One). Captions for illustrations should be listed in a separate file.
Formatting. Text, References and a list of Figure captions should be included, without any character and paragraph style formatting. Turn off hyphenation; one font size throughout; do not justify at the right; do not indent paragraphs; do not use bold text in headings.
Headings and subheadings. Type these at the left margin (do not centre or indent), utilizing the following simplified hierarchy:
(a) upper case throughout (no full point at the end), preceded and followed by two hard returns
(b) upper (first letter of first word) and then lower case (no full point at the end), preceded and followed by two hard returns
(c) upper (first letter of first word) and then lower case (no full point at the end), preceded and followed by two spaces, then text.
Separate all paragraphs by two hard returns.
References. Separate all references by two hard returns; do not indent turnover lines (the second and subsequent lines of a reference). Tables must be in separate files from the text: the preferred format is Microsoft EXCEL. Figures must be in separate files from the text: the preferred formats are tif or eps.
Proofs. PDF proofs will be sent directly to the authors by the publisher, and should be returned immediately after correction.
Offprints. A PDF offprint of each article will be provided free of charge to the first-named contributor. Additional offprints may be purchased from the publisher according to a scale of charges.
Editing. The editor retains the right to make minor stylistic changes to the finally-accepted typescript. Any substantial changes will, of course, be referred back first to the author.
Copyright Assignment Form. Authors will be required to assign copyright in their paper to European Consortium for Political Research. Copyright assignment is a condition of publication and papers will not be passed to the publisher unless copyright has been assigned. To assist authors an appropriate copyright assignment form will be supplied by the editorial office. Alternatively, authors may like to download a copy of the form here. Government employees need to complete the Author Warranty sections, although copyright in such cases does not need to be assigned. |
