Declaración ética sobre publicación y buenas prácticas editoriales
Convergencia Revista de Ciencias Sociales está comprometida con la comunidad científica para garantizar la ética y calidad de los artículos publicados. Nuestra revista tiene como referencia el Código de conducta y buenas prácticas que define el Comité de Ética en Publicaciones (COPE) para editores de revistas científicas (http://publicationethics.org). Al mismo tiempo, garantiza una adecuada respuesta a las necesidades de los lectores y autores, asegurando la calidad de lo publicado, protegiendo y respetando el contenido de los artículos así como la integridad de los mismos.
Responsabilidades o comportamiento de:
El editor
Cuidar la imparcialidad tanto en la recepción de los artículos como en el fallo de la evaluación.
Actuar en todo momento con apego a los criterios editoriales y a la línea editorial.
La revisión académica de los artículos se rige por el sistema de pares ciegos, por lo que la revista se compromete a cuidar el anonimato de autores y revisores.
Convergencia Revista de Ciencias Sociales es financiada con recursos públicos y se apega a la filosofía de acceso abierto; por lo tanto, su contenido no tiene fines comerciales, lo cual es garantizado en todo momento por el equipo editorial.
El equipo editorial está en disposición de aclarar dudas a autores y revisores en el proceso de dictaminación y edición.
El director editorial garantiza que dará a conocer el resultado del proceso de dictamen exclusivamente a los autores, a través de la plataforma Open Journal Systems (OJS).
Las conductas de plagio no son admitidas por Convergencia Revista de Ciencias Sociales, en este sentido, se evalúan los artículos con un software especializado. Todo caso detectado implicará el rechazo del artículo, mismo que se le notificará a los autores del artículo y no se le volverá a dar la posibilidad de postular otro manuscrito en la revista.
En los casos que se requiera, la revista hará públicas las aclaraciones y correcciones correspondientes y necesarias.
Los autores
Los autores deben garantizar que los artículos son producto de su trabajo original como investigadores y que los datos presentados han sido obtenidos de manera ética, por lo que deben enviar la carta de originalidad y garantizar que no infringen los derechos de autor.
El artículo no podrá ser sometido total o parcialmente a otra publicación.
Los autores no podrán postular publicaciones redundantes, entendiéndose por ello cuando dos o más documentos comparten los mismos datos, hipótesis, puntos de discusión o conclusiones.
Aquellos trabajos en coautoría deberán contar con una justificación que exprese el consenso pleno del apego a los lineamientos de todos los autores involucrados.
Los autores deberán garantizar el estricto apego y aceptación a los criterios editoriales establecidos por Convergencia Revista de Ciencias Sociales.
Es obligación de los autores respetar la autoría de todas las fuentes que han sido utilizadas en la elaboración de su artículo; por eso debe proporcionar los datos exactos de las referencias bibliográficas, hemerográficas, electrónicas y otras técnicas de recolección de datos. Asimismo, se compromete a no omitir ningún material significativo.
Atender las observaciones de los dictámenes editorial y académico de manera puntual y clara.
Incurrir en cualquier falta a los anteriores puntos constituye una conducta no ética e inaceptable; en consecuencia, el artículo propuesto será eliminado y no considerado para su publicación; igualmente, el autor no podrá ser considerado para ninguna actividad relacionada con la revista.
Revisores
Deben comprometerse a mantener la confidencialidad de la información relacionada con los artículos que evalúan.
No pueden hacer ningún tipo de difusión ni distribución de la información presentada en el artículo que evalúan hasta el momento en que sea publicado por la revista.
Se comprometen a realizar el dictamen de manera objetiva, imparcial, responsable y rigurosa.
Demostrar disposición para aclarar dudas y todos los asuntos relacionados con el cumplimiento en cada una de las etapas que comprende el proceso de dictamen.
Al incurrir en cualquier falta a los anteriores puntos, la revista se reserva el derecho de entregar constancia de su pertenencia a la cartera de árbitros.
Declaration of publishing ethics and best editorial practices
Convergencia. Revista de Ciencias Sociales is committed to the scientific community to ensure the ethics and quality of the articles it publishes. Our journal holds the Code of conduct and Best Practice as a reference, defined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) for Scientific Journal Editors (http://publicationethics.org). At the same time, it endeavors to guarantee an adequate response to the readers and authors’ needs, ensuring the quality of what has been published, protecting and respecting the content of the articles as well as their integrity.
Responsibilities or behavior of:
The editor
Take care of the impartiality both at the reception and in the ruling of the articles.
Act, at all times, in accordance with the editorial criteria and editorial line.
Ensure the anonymity of authors and reviewers, since the academic review of articles is governed by the arbitration method of blind pairs.
Convergencia. Revista de Ciencias Sociales is financed with public funds and adheres to the philosophy of open access; therefore, its content does not have commercial purposes, guaranteed at all times by the editorial team.
The editorial staff is well-disposed to clarify any doubt of the authors and reviewers over the processes of ruling and editing.
The editor in chief guarantees that the result of the ruling process will be announced exclusively to the authors via the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.
Plagiarism is not allowed by Convergencia. Revista de Ciencias Sociales; in this regard, specialized software is utilized to analyze the articles. Any case detected implies the rejection of the article, the authors of the article will be notified and will not be granted any other opportunity to submit a manuscript to the journal.
When required, the journal will publish the corresponding and necessary clarifications and corrections.
The Authors
The authors must guarantee that the articles are product of their original work as researchers and that the data submitted have been obtained in an ethical manner; hence, they shall send the letter of originality and guarantee that they do not infringe any copyrights.
The article may not be submitted in whole or in part to another publication.
The authors may not postulate redundant publications, i.e., when two or more documents share the same data, hypotheses, discussion points or conclusions.
Those works in co-authorship shall have a justification that expresses the full consensus on the adherence to the guidelines of all of the authors involved.
The authors must guarantee strict adherence and acceptance of the editorial criteria established by Convergencia. Revista de Ciencias Sociales.
It is the obligation of the authors to respect the authorship of all the sources that have been resorted to in the preparation of their article; thereby, the exact data of bibliographical references, newspaper and printed media sources, electronic and other techniques of data collection must be provided. They also commit not to omit any significant materials.
Meeting the observations of editorial and academic rulings in a timely and clear manner.
Failing to meet any of the aforementioned points constitutes unethical and unacceptable behavior; accordingly, the submitted article will be eliminated and not considered for publication; in like manner, the author will not be considered for any activity related to the journal.
Reviewers
Must commit to maintain the confidentiality of information related to the articles assessed.
Cannot make any type of dissemination or distribution of the information presented in the article assessed until it is published by the journal.
Commit to carry out the ruling in an objective, impartial, responsible and rigorous form.
Show readiness to clarify doubts and any aspect related to the compliance of each of the stages in the ruling process.
The journal reserves the right to provide evidence of the reviewers’ membership to the portfolio of arbitrators, if they fail to adhere to any of the previous points.
Author Guidelines
Convergencia Revista de Ciencias Sociales es una publicación cuatrimestral del Centro de Investigación y Estudios Avanzados en Ciencias Políticas y Administración Pública, de la Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México, con fines científicos y que se apega a la filosofía de acceso abierto. Su principal tarea es promover, impulsar y difundir la investigación científica de las ciencias sociales.
Lineamientos generales
1. Todos los artículos que se entreguen para su posible publicación deberán ser de carácter eminentemente académico. Por la naturaleza de la revista, no se aceptarán artículos de género periodístico o comentarios generales sobre algún tema.
2. Deben ser originales y no haber sido publicados con anterioridad, así como no estar sometidos al mismo tiempo a dictamen en cualquier otro medio.
3. Se aceptan trabajos en los idiomas: español e inglés.
4. La recepción de un artículo no implica su aceptación para ser publicado.
5. Todos los trabajos serán revisados mediante un software para la detección de plagio.
6. Las colaboraciones serán revisadas mediante un primer dictamen editorial, para verificar que correspondan con la temática de la revista y cumplan con todos los lineamientos establecidos.
7. Sólo cuando se acredite dicho dictamen, se firmará la declaratoria de originalidad necesaria para el registro formal, iniciando así, en segunda instancia, el dictamen académico.
8. Todos los artículos serán sometidos a este proceso mediante pares académicos bajo la modalidad de dobles ciegos, a cargo de dos miembros de la cartera de árbitros de la revista, la cual está compuesta por prestigiados especialistas de instituciones nacionales e internacionales. Dicho dictamen se realizará con árbitros externos a la institución de adscripción de los autores.
9. Las resoluciones del proceso de dictamen son: aprobado para publicar sin cambios; aprobado para publicar cuando se hayan cumplido las correcciones menores; condicionado a cambios obligatorios sujeto a reenvío; o rechazado.
10. En el caso de obtener resultados discrepantes se remitirá a un tercer dictamen, el cual será definitivo.
11. Los resultados de los dictámenes son inapelables.
12. Los dictaminadores son los únicos responsables de revisar los cambios efectuados, en el caso de resultados sujetos a reenvío.
13. Sólo se aceptarán tres reenvíos por trabajo; después de ello el artículo será rechazado por rebasar dicho límite.
14. El autor cuenta con treinta días naturales como máximo para hacer correcciones.
15. Debido a que Convergencia tiene artículos en lista de espera para ser revisados, los procesos de dictaminación se llevarán a cabo siguiendo un orden, de acuerdo con la fecha de recepción. La coordinación editorial de la revista informará a los autores sobre el avance de su trabajo en el proceso de dictaminación y edición, y responderá a todas las dudas. Los autores también podrán conocer dicho avance al consultar la plataforma OJS.
16. Cada número de la revista se integrará con nueve artículos que en el momento del cierre de edición cuenten con la aprobación de por lo menos dos árbitros o dictaminadores. No obstante, con el fin de dar una mejor composición temática a cada número, Convergencia se reserva el derecho de adelantar o posponer los artículos aceptados.
17. La coordinación editorial de la revista también se reserva el derecho de hacer la corrección de estilo y cambios editoriales que considere necesarios para mejorar el trabajo.
18. Todo caso no previsto será resuelto por el Comité de Redacción de la revista.
19. Las colaboraciones deberán postularse en la plataforma OJS (http://convergencia.uaemex.mx/)
20. En la primera página del trabajo deberá aparecer el nombre completo del autor(es) o la forma en que desee aparezca su nombre y la institución con la cual deberá aparecer el artículo una vez aprobado.
21. No se aceptan epígrafes al inicio del trabajo.
22. El autor podrá mencionar las fuentes de financiamiento y agradecimientos que considere necesarios en una nota al pie, en la sección introductoria.
23. Las siglas deben ir desatadas la primera vez que aparezcan en el texto, en la bibliografía, en los cuadros, tablas y gráficos. Por ejemplo, en el texto la primera vez deberá escribirse: Organización Mundial de la Salud, posteriormente: OMS.
24. Al final del trabajo el o los autores deberán incluir una breve ficha curricular que deberá contener los siguientes elementos: máximo grado académico, institución y dependencia donde labora, país, líneas de investigación, referencia completa de tres publicaciones recientes, correo electrónico, dirección postal y teléfono.
25. Una vez que el trabajo ha sido aprobado para su publicación, el investigador(es) concederá por esta primera edición la propiedad de los derechos de autor a Convergencia Revista de Ciencias Sociales, para que su artículo sea reproducido, editado y transmitido públicamente en cualquier forma o medio electrónico para fines exclusivamente científicos, culturales, de difusión y sin fines de lucro. Asimismo, el autor concede que en la versión impresa su artículo sea distribuido y puesto a disposición del público, mediante el número de ejemplares de la revista que se requieran. Para todo ello, el o los autores deben remitir a la coordinación editorial de la revista el formato de Carta-Cesión de la Propiedad de los Derechos de Autor (se encuentra en la página web de Convergencia) debidamente requisitado y firmado por el autor(es). Dicho formato se puede enviar por correo electrónico en archivo pdf.
26. Los autores podrán usar el material de su artículo en otros trabajos publicados por ellos con la condición de citar a Convergencia Revista de Ciencias Sociales como la fuente original de los textos.
Para artículos:
1. La estructura mínima debe incluir: introducción (que refleje con claridad los antecedentes del trabajo y objetivo de la investigación), desarrollo (indicando la metodología, resultados y limitaciones) y conclusiones.
2. Sólo se aceptarán trabajos presentados por un máximo de cuatro autores con una extensión de 15 a 25 cuartillas, incluyendo gráficos, tablas, notas a pie de página y referencias -únicamente las que son citadas a lo largo del texto-, en tamaño carta, con un interlineado de 1.5, en tipografía Times new roman, de 12 puntos
3. Deben tener un título descriptivo tanto en español como en inglés, de preferencia breve (no más de 12 palabras) que refiera claramente el contenido.
4. Es imprescindible entregar un resumen con una extensión de entre 100 y 150 palabras, y anexar cinco palabras clave del texto, todo en el idioma de origen del artículo y en inglés. El resumen debe contener los siguientes elementos: objetivo, metodología, resultados y adelanto de conclusiones.
5. Los títulos y subtítulos deberán diferenciarse entre sí; para ello se recomienda el uso del sistema decimal.
6. Para la versión impresa, las ilustraciones (mapas, cuadros, tablas y gráficos) serán las estrictamente necesarias y deberán explicarse por sí solas sin tener que recurrir al texto para su comprensión. Deben ser colocadas al final de éste, proporcionando la fuente. En el texto se debe indicar al lector que las ilustraciones se encuentran en la última parte del mismo. Es importante que cada una de éstas se envíe en un archivo aparte.
7. El formato para las imágenes (mapas, figuras) debe ser jpg, en escala de grises, sin ningún tipo de resaltado o textura. Los diagramas o esquemas no deben ser copiados de internet. En el caso de las imágenes con datos, cifras y/o texto, deberán enviarse en el formato original en el cual fueron creadas, en Microsoft Word o Excel. Para el caso de las tablas y cuadros se recomienda que la información estadística manejada sea lo más concisa posible.
8. Por política editorial, para la versión impresa no se acepta ningún tipo de foto, y la revista se reserva el derecho de publicar ilustraciones demasiado amplias.
9. Para la versión digital no hay restricciones para adjuntar ilustraciones que incluyan color, así como material audiovisual.
10. Una vez que el trabajo es aprobado para su publicación, los autores deberán enviar una fotografía inédita y de calidad que ilustre el contenido del artículo con formato JPG, modo RGB y dimensiones mínimas de 1024 X 768 pixeles.
11. Las notas a pie de página deberán ser únicamente aclaratorias o explicativas, es decir, han de servir para ampliar o puntualizar lo dicho en el cuerpo del texto, y no para indicar las fuentes bibliográficas, ya que para eso está la sección de las referencias.
12. Las citas deberán usar el sistema Harvard, de acuerdo con los siguientes ejemplos:
• Cuando se haga referencia de manera general a una obra, se escribirá el apellido del autor, el año de edición y el número de página, dentro de un paréntesis:
(Alberti, 2002: 39); en el caso de dos autores se indicará de la siguiente forma: (Rodríguez y García, 1998: 56); si son más de dos autores se anotará (Sánchez et al., 2003).
• En el caso de utilizarse obras del mismo autor publicadas en el mismo año, se ordenarán alfabéticamente y se les distinguirá con una letra minúscula después del año:
“La poesía no puede sacar partido del arrepentimiento, pues no bien se plantea este último, el escenario es interno” (Kierkegaard, 1992a: 79).
“Un momento así exige tranquilidad, no debe ser perturbado por la reflexión, ni pueden interrumpirlo las tormentas de la pasión” (Kierkegaard, 1992b: 100).
13. La sección de las referencias deberá contener los datos completos de las obras de los autores que se citen en el cuerpo del texto, sin agregar otras que no sean citadas, y se debe evitar que las autocitas rebasen el 30% del total.
14. Los datos en la sección de las referencias deben estar ordenados alfabética y cronológicamente según corresponda. No usar mayúsculas continuas. Los apellidos y nombres de los autores deben estar completos, es decir, no deben anotarse sólo abreviaturas. Véanse los siguientes ejemplos:

Editorial criteria
Convergencia Revista de Ciencias Sociales is a four-month publication of the Center of Research and Advanced Studies on Political Sciences and Public Administration, of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico, it has scientific purposes and adheres to the philosophy of open access. Its main objective is to promote, enhance and disseminate scientific research on social sciences.
General Guidelines
1. All of the submissions for possible publication should have an eminently academic focus. Due to the nature of the journal, journalistic articles or general comments on a defined theme will not be accepted.
2. Articles must be original and have never been published before, as well as not being subject to ruling elsewhere at the same time.
3. Works are accepted in Spanish and English languages.
4. The reception of an article does not imply acceptance to be published.
5. All submissions will be analyzed with specialized software in order to detect plagiarism.
6. All submissions will be reviewed by means of a first editorial assessment, so that they agree with the topics of the journal and comply with all the established guidelines.
7. Only when such assessment is verified, will the declaration of originality be signed, this is required for formal registration, thus beginning, in second instance, the academic ruling.
8. All the submissions will undergo a peer-review process through the double-blind system carried out by two members from the journal’s board of arbitrators, which comprises highly qualified specialists of national and international universities. The ruling will be carried out by external arbitrators, from a different institution than that of the authors.
9. The decisions of the process are: approved for publication without changes; approved for publication when minor corrections have been met; conditioned to compulsory modifications subject to resubmission; reject.
10. In case of discrepant results, the articles will be sent to a third ruling, which is final.
11. The results of the ruling are unappealable.
12. The arbitrators are the only ones responsible for reviewing the changes made to the articles, in the event of articles subject to resubmission.
13. Only three resubmissions are allowed for each article; the article will be rejected if it exceeds this limit.
14. The author has a 30-calendar-day deadline to make corrections.
15. Owing to the fact that Convergencia has articles waiting to be reviewed, the processes of ruling will be carried out following an order according to the date of reception. The editorial coordination of the journal will inform the authors about the progress of their work in the process of ruling and editing, and will deal with any doubt that may arise. The authors may also learn about such progress by consulting the platform OJS.
16. Each issue of the journal will comprise nine articles that at the time of the closure of edition have the approval of at least two arbitrators. Notwithstanding, in order to provide every issue with a better thematic composition, Convergencia reserves the right to advance or postpone accepted articles.
17. The editorial coordination of the journal also reserves the right to perform the proofreading and editorial amendments as it deems necessary to improve the articles.
18. Any unforeseen cases will be resolved by the Editorial Committee of the journal.
19. Submissions should be submitted at the OJS platform (http://convergencia.uaemex.mx/)
20. The first page of the work should include author(s)’s full name or the way in which the author(s) want to display their name and their institution, once the article is approved.
21. Epigraphs are not allowed at the beginning of the work.
22. The author may mention the sources of financing and acknowledgments, as considered by the author, as a footnote in the introductory section.
23. Acronyms should be fully written the first time they appear in the text, bibliography, figures, tables and graphs. For example, the first time it appears in the text shall be written: World Health Organization, later: WHO.
24. At the end of the article, the authors should include a brief curricular record, including the following items: the highest academic degree, institution and department where the author works, country, research lines, full reference of three recent publications, e-mail, postal address and a telephone number.
25. Once the article has been approved for publication, the researcher(s) will waive for the first edition the ownership of the copyright to Convergencia Revista de Ciencias Sociales, so that the article is reproduced, edited and transmitted publicly in any form or media for scientific, cultural, dissemination and nonprofit purposes, exclusively. Similarly, the author grants that the printed version of their article is distributed and made available to the public by means of the number of copies the journal requires. For these purposes, the author(s) should send to the editorial coordination of the journal the format of letter of assignment of the copyright ownership (found in the web page of Convergencia) duly filled out and signed by the author(s).This format can be sent via email as a PDF file.
26. Authors can use the material of their article in other works published by them on condition that Convergencia Revista de Ciencias Sociales is quoted as the original source of the texts.
For articles:
1. The minimum structure must include: introduction (which clearly reflects the background of the article and purpose of the research), discussion (indicating the methodology, results and limitations) and conclusions.
2. Articles will be accepted only if submitted by a maximum of four authors, ranging from 15 to 25 pages, including graphs, tables, footnotes and bibliography –only those referred to in the text– letter size, with a line spacing of 1.5, Times New Roman font, 12 points.
3. It must have a descriptive title both in Spanish and English, preferably brief (no more than 12 words), that clearly relates to the content.
4. It is compulsory to include an abstract, using between 100 and 150 words, as well as five key words from the text, in the original language and in English. The abstract must include the following elements: objective, methodology, results and advancement of conclusions.
5. Titles and subtitles must be differentiated between them; the use of decimal system is suggested.
6. Illustrations for the printed version, (maps, charts, tables and graphs) will be the strictly necessary and should be self-explanatory, without referring to the text for understanding. They must be placed at the end of the article, providing the source. The reader should be informed that the illustrations are found in the final part of the text. It is important that each one of these is sent in a separate file.
7. The format for images (maps, figures) must be jpg, grayscale, without any kind of highlighting or texture. The diagrams and schemas should not be copied from the internet. In the case of images with data, figures and/or text, they should be sent in the original format in which they were created, in Microsoft Word or Excel. In the case of charts and tables it is recommended that the statistical information included is as concise as possible.
8. Due to editorial policy, no photographs whatsoever will be accepted for the printed version and the journal reserves the right to publish excessively large illustrations.
9. There are no restrictions to attach artwork that includes color, as well as audiovisual material for the digital version.
10. Once the article is approved for publication, the authors will have to send a high-quality unpublished photograph that illustrates the content of the article, in a JPG format, RBG and minimal dimensions of 1024 X 768 pixels.10. 12. The Harvard system must be used in citations, according to the following examples:
• When a general reference to a work is made, the author’s surname, the year of publication and the page number within a parenthesis must be written: (Alberti, 2002: 39); in the case of two authors it will be indicated as follows: (Rodriguez and Garcia, 1998: 56); if there are more than two authors (Sánchez et al., 2003) will be written.
• In the case using works written by the same author, published the same year, they must be sorted alphabetically and distinguished with a lower case letter following the year of publication.

13. The section of references must contain the complete data of the authors’ works that are quoted in the discussion part, without adding others not mentioned, and self-quoting must not exceed 30 percent of the total.
14. Data in the section of bibliography should be sorted alphabetically and chronologically. The use of continuous capital letters must be avoided. The author’s name and surname must be written in full, which means abbreviations are not permitted here. Consider the following examples:
