Instructions to Authors
ScholarOne Manuscripts
This journal uses ScholarOne Manuscripts (previously Manuscript Central) to peer review manuscript submissions. Please read the guide for ScholarOne authors before making a submission. Complete guidelines for preparing and submitting your manuscript to this journal are provided below.

Please note that Journal of School Violence uses CrossCheck™ software to screen papers for unoriginal material. By submitting your paper to Journal of School Violence you are agreeing to any necessary originality checks your paper may have to undergo during the peer review and production processes.

Submission of Manuscripts
Journal of School Violence receives all manuscript submissions electronically via their ScholarOne Manuscripts website located at: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jsv. ScholarOne Manuscripts allows for rapid submission of original and revised manuscripts, as well as facilitating the review process and internal communication between authors, editors and reviewers via a web-based platform. ScholarOne Manuscripts technical support can be accessed via http://scholarone.com/services/support/. If you have any other requests please contact the journal’s co-editors, Brad W. Reyns at breyns@weber.edu, and Ryan W. Randa at rxr042@shsu.edu.

Submission of a manuscript to this journal represents a certification on the part of the author(s) that it is an original work, and that neither this manuscript nor a version of it has been published elsewhere or is being considered for publication elsewhere.
All manuscripts must follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th ed. ( http://www.apastyle.org). (1) One-inch margins on all sides. (2) Double space all text; tables may remain single-spaced. (3) Manuscripts should be 25-30 pages in length, or approximately 7,000 words. This includes all pages: title, abstract, references, tables, figures, and appendices. (4) Times New Roman 12-point font. (5) No footnotes or endnotes. No headers or footers. (6) Use abbreviations sparingly. (7) Tables/figures in strict APA, 6th ed. format, after the reference list. Use decimal tabs to align numbers in columns. (8) Cover page should include contact information for the corresponding author (address, e-mail, phone, and fax). (9) Provide an abstract of approximately 125 words on a new page following the title page. Abstracts should not contain reference citations. (10) Provide 3-10 key words below the abstract for indexing purposes. (11) Include the digital object identifier (DOI) with all periodicals citations in the reference list.

Submitted manuscripts will undergo blind peer review. Authors should avoid placing any form of identification either on the body of the manuscript or in the required abstract. Manuscripts that do not conform to these requirements will be returned to the authors for correction and will delay the review process. Please consult our guidance on keywords here.

Conflict of Interest
Potential conflicts of interest in relation to the submitted manuscript include: consultancies, employment, grants, fees, honoraria, patents, royalties, and stock or share ownership. If any of these apply to a manuscript, the author(s) must disclose this information to the reader in the author note. Please describe any potential conflicts of interest in a covering letter, indicating funding when greater than US$3,000 per year. All funding sources supoprting the work should also be acknowledged.

References
References should be double-spaced, placed in alphabetical order, and listed on separate pages following the text. They should refer only to material cited in the manuscript and should follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th ed. Reference listings should include author names up to and including seven authors. When authors number eight or more, include the first six authors' names followed by a comma and "et al." This is an exception to the sixth edition. In text, reference citations should include author and year of publication. Identify subsequent citations in the text in the same way as the first, not using ibid., op. cit., or loc. cit. If citing five authors or fewer, give names of all authors. For six authors or more, use “et al.”  The following are examples of reference style in the reference list:

Books:

Lipsey, M.W. (1990). Design Sensitivity: Statistical power for experimental research. Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage.

McDonald, L., & Sayger, T.V. (1998). Impact of a family and school based prevention program on protective factors for high-risk youth. In J. Valentine, J.A. DeJong, & N.M. Kennedy (Eds.), Substance abuse prevention in multicultural communities (pp.61-85). New York: Haworth Press.

Periodicals:

McLoyd, V. (1998). Socioeconomic disadvantage and child development. American Psychologist, 53, 185-204.

Blais, M.A., Lenderking, W.R., Baer, L., deLorell, A., Peets, K., Leahy, L., & Burns, C. (1999). Development and initial validation of a brief mental health outcome measure. Journal of Personality Assessment, 73(3), 359-373.

Tables and Figures
Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text but should be included on separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction.  Figure legends should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet.

Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • Sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
  • Submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Color art can be purchased for online-only reproduction or for print + online reproduction. Color reprints can only be ordered if print + online reproduction costs are paid. Rates for color art reproduction are: Online-Only Reproduction: $225 for the first page with color; $100 per page for the next three pages of color.  A maximum charge of $525 applies. Print + Online Reproduction: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than four pages of color.

Proofs
Page proofs are sent to the designated author using Taylor & Francis’ Central Article Tracking System (CATS). They should be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours.

Reprints and Issues
Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication. Each corresponding author will receive 3 complete issues in which the article publishes and a complimentary PDF. This file is for personal use only and may not be copied and disseminated in any form without prior written permission from Taylor and Francis Group, LLC. Authors for whom we receive a valid e-mail address will be provided an opportunity to purchase reprints of individual articles, or copies of the complete print issue. These authors will also be given complimentary access to their final article on Taylor & Francis Online.

Open Access
Taylor & Francis Open Select provides authors or their research sponsors and funders with the option of paying a publishing fee and thereby making an article fully and permanently available for free online access – open access – immediately on publication to anyone, anywhere, at any time. This option is made available once an article has been accepted in peer review. Full details of our Open Access program.

Publishing Ethics
