About the journal
Basic Information

The journal Terapia Psicologica was founded by the Chilean Society of Clinical Psychology in 1982, and it has been published continuously up to date. It covers theoretical and empirical articles in Clinical Psychology. The journal is aimed at promoting the exchange of knowledge that contributes to the development of scientific psychology, and it stimulates criticism within the discipline, based on the discussion of data, research methods, theoretical perspectives, and multidisciplinary integration. Articles coming from all areas and specialties of Clinical Psychology are published (assessment, prevention, intervention, etc.), as well as articles that concern the relevance of variables related with clinical issues.
Three numbers per year are published.
To cite the journal the complete title is Terapia Psicologica.
Its abbreviated title is Ter Psicol, and it should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, references and bibliographic strips.

Instructions to Authors
Scope and policy
|
Articles must be original and they can not be in the process of revision or publication in another journal. All articles must follow the most updated version of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA); manuscripts that do not comply with this format would be returned for revision.
Manuscripts written in English or Spanish are accepted for publication. We publish original articles, reviews, and brief reports. Once the document is received, it will be reviewed by the editors, to determine if its content, format, style, and formal aspects comply with the journal requirements.
Afterwards the article will be assigned to peer reviewing, where two independent assessments of the manuscript´s quality are required, to determine if the article is accepted without modifications, with modifications or it is rejected. In the event that the evaluations are not conclusive, a third reviewer will be assigned, to determine if the manuscript is accepted with modifications or rejected.

Form and preparation of manuscripts
|
Manuscripts will have a maximum extension of 30 pages, double spaced, in font Times New Roman 12. The cover page will include the title of the manuscript, the names of the authors, their institutional affiliation, and an e-mail address (which will be published in the article). In the second page the tittle will appear (without the authors), followed by the abstract (in English and Spanish) that will not exceed 150 words, and a maximum of five key words that will reflect the main points of the manuscript.
Following the APA style, empirical articles must include the following sections: introduction, method (participants, instruments, procedure, etc.), results, discussion and references. Theoretical articles must include a very clear and organized structure that includes the introduction, and discussion sections, as well as their corresponding references.
Figures and tables included in the text must be numbered in their orden of appearance, and they have to be included each on separate pages. These must be presented as they would show in the final article, in terms of their shape and size. It must be indicated in the text, the place where the Table or Figure should appear (with the sentence “Insert Figure …/ Table … about here” ).
References in the the text must be cited using the author´s last name and the year of publication, in compliance to one of the following formats: “… according to Barlow & Hoffman (1997)” or “… according to research in anxiety, to date is known… (Barlow & Hoffman, 1997)”. If a reference has one or two authors, the authors must be cited each time they appear in the text. If a reference has between three and six authors, all of them have to be cited the first time they appear in the text, and subsequently the first author will be cited adding the latin abbreviation “et al.” Example: Hayes et al., 2001. If a reference has more than six authors, from the first and subsequent times that it is cited, it will always have the last name of the first author, followed by the abbreviation “et al.”, and the year of publication.
All of the references used and cited in the manuscript must be sorted alphabetically by the first author´s last name or the title (if it doesn´t have an author), in the last section of the manuscript, followed by the year of publication in parentheses (from older to recent dates), the title of the source, volume, pages, place of publication and editorial (when it corresponds). End notes must be avoided.
Specifically, the required format is as follows:
Books:
Last name of the author followed by the intitials of the name, year of publication (in parentheses), title of the book (in italics), and edition. Place of publication (followed by a colon), and editorial.
Example: Buss, D.M. (1994). Evolution of human desire: Strategies of human mating. New York: Basic Books.
Book Chapters:
Last name of the author followed by the intitials of the name, year of publication (in parentheses), title of the chapter. In: initials of the name followed by the last name of the authors of the book (indicating if they are editors, “eds.”, compilators, comps.”, etc.), title of the book (in italics), edition, and the pages of the chapter. Place of publication (followed by a colon), and editorial.
Example: Barlow, D.H. & Hoffman, S.G. (1997). Eficacy and disemination of psicological treatements. En: Clark, D.M. & Fairburn, C.G. (eds). Science and Practice of cognitive behaviour therapy ( pp. 95-117). Oxford: Oxford University Press.
Articles:
Last name of the author followed by the intitials of the name, year of publication (in parentheses), title of the article, name of the journal and volume (in italics), initial and last page numbers.
Example: Flórez-Alarcón, L. (2000). El proceso psicológico de la promoción y de la prevención. Avances en Psicología Clínica Latinoamericana, 18, 13-22.
To further inquire on the information not inlcuded here, authors must review the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (information available at www.apa.org).
Articles that do not comply with these requirements will not be considered in the peer review process.
When a manuscript is received a confirmation will be sent to the first author. The review process will be concluded in a maximum of 150 days, and the author will receive a confirmation of acceptance or rejection of the manuscript. If changes are required, the authors will have up to three months to do so. After this period, the manuscript will be considered as a new article to begin the review process.
Once the manuscript is accepted for publication a final copy of the article must be sent by e-mail (in Word 6.0 or a later version).
The editorial committee may include modifications to the manuscript in order to format the articles for publication.
When the article is published, the first author will receive 15 reprints of the article. In the event of requiring more reprints, the authors will have to assume the extra cost.
Once an article has been accepted for publication, it is implicit that all of the authors yield their publication rights to the journal.
The opinions expressed in the articles, are the authors exclusive responsibility, and they do not necessarily represent the thinking the Chilean Society of Clinical Psychology.
