About the journal
The Journal of Policy History is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed academic journal concerned with the application of historical perspectives to public policy studies. The journal encourages submissions researching the formation and development of public policy, in which diverse methods and theories are applied to public policy and politics within a historical perspective. While seeking to inform scholars interested in policy history, the journal also seeks to inform policy makers through a historical approach to public policy.
In 2013, Thomson Reuters in survey of academic journals ranked the Journal of Policy History 13 out of 69 historical journals in impact. Impact is measured by citations in other publications. The JPH ranked 91 out of 157 journals in the Political Science category.
On these pages you can find information about how to submit manuscripts to the Journal of Policy History, the contents of past issues, the editors and editorial board, past and future Policy History Conferences, as well as other information about the journal.

Instructions to Authors
We hope you will consider the Journal of Policy History for publishing your scholarly examinations of the history of public policy and political history.
Please note: Beginning October 24,2012, the JPH will move to an automated submission process. The system we have chosen is ScholarOne. This online system will manage and track manuscripts through the process from submission, through review, to final decision. The benefit to the author is the ability to see exactly where their manuscript is in the decision process. You may submit your manuscript and accompanying materials through the link on this page or through Cambridge Journals Online. The link below will take you to ScholarOne where authors will establish a login and password. They will then upload their submission materials to the site.
Manuscripts should be double-spaced, and should generally not exceed 8,000 words not including notes. Citations should appear as endnotes following The Chicago Manual of Style format for humanities. All submissions must contain the following as prompted by the ScholarOne system:
- A cover letter introducing the submission
- A copy of the manuscript
- A separate title page which lists author's name, position, organization, department, and contact information (address, email, phone number)
- A biographical sketch not exceeding 50 words which will be published with the article if accepted
- An abstract summarizing the submission not exceeding 150 words
Manuscripts will be reviewed anonymously by scholars with expertise in the article’s subject matter; authors' names should appear only on the title page.
