About the journal

International Studies Perspectives (ISP) publishes peer-reviewed articles that bridge the interests of researchers, teachers, and practitioners working within any and all subfields of international studies. The journal is devoted to five types of contribution:
Policy research and commentary. Articles in this category are addressed to current or recent policy debates, highlight the degree to which these debates are (or should be) informed by existing scholarly literature and contemporary research, and are directed to an audience consisting of both academics and practitioners.
Pedagogical analyses. Colleges and universities around the world have placed renewed emphasis on innovative teaching methods in the field of international studies, and ISP provides an outlet for high quality pedagogical analysis. Active learning approaches, curriculum development, multimedia methods, and other topics have been discussed in the journal's pages.
New and updated datasets. These articles provide methodological background for new and updated data sets that are of interest to the international studies community. The articles provided should provide a discussion of design, procedure and implementation of the data gathering or updating process with sufficient detail to enable potential users of the data to judge the reliability and applicability of the data. A copy of the data and all additional documentation needed for its utilization, must be included in an electronic form suitable for archiving.
Pieces of interest to the international studies profession. Articles on the profession deal with such topics as publishing in international studies, the job market, and professional development. This section also includes sometimes humorous (but always insightful) "pieces on our craft".
Special Issues and Forums. ISP does not publish special issues but it welcomes the submission of forums within the five topic areas noted above. These forums may include as many as four topically-related articles, or they may consist of an exchange of criticism, debate and response within one of these five topical areas.

Instructions to Authors
Submission Guidelines To submit an article for review and possible publication in International Studies Perspectives, simply follow the submission instructions on our manuscript management website: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/isp
Submissions should include an anonymous copy suitable for blind peer-review. It should have all self-identifying references and language removed, no acknowledgements, no notes indicating previous conference presentations of material, and a title page without authors' names or affiliations. The second copy should be a full copy with all references, and author information included. Both files should include an abstract of about 150 words. Format. Please send us your submission in .doc, or .rtf file format, with figures and tables included in the same file with the text. At the initial review phase, the article does not need to conform exactly to the ISA style guide. However, for ease of review, please avoid unusual formatting (doublespaced with serif font is preferred), and please use some form of parenthetical in-text references with year, and a bibliography that includes all cited works. Please do not send in your manuscript in PDF format.
Correspondence. All correspondence should be sent to ISP@vuw.ac.nz
Special Issues and Forums. ISP does not publish special issues but it welcomes the submission of forums within the topic areas noted above. These forums may include as many as five topically-related articles, or they may consist of an exchange of criticism, debate, and response within one of the topical areas that ISP covers.
Article Lengths. Articles under 10,000 words, all inclusive, are preferred and articles on new and updated data sets are generally expected to be less than 7,000 words. Articles that exceed the preferred length will need to provide a value of intellectual contribution sufficient to justify the additional space they will require.
