About the journal

Distance Education is a peer-reviewed journal of the Open and Distance Learning Association of Australia, Inc. It publishes research and scholarly material in the fields of open, distance and flexible education. Distance Education was one of the first journals published to focus exclusively on this area of educational practice, and today it remains a primary source of original and scholarly work in the field.
All papers are reviewed by members of the Editorial Board with expertise in the areas(s) represented by a paper, and/or invited reviewers with special competence in the area(s) covered. The Editors reserve the right to make minor alterations to all papers that are accepted for publication.
Distance Education is currently noted in Australian Education Index, Cabell's , Contents Pages in Education , ERIC , Book Review Digest Plus, A B I - INFORM (American Business Information), Database of Research on International Education, EBSCOhost, EdResearch Online, Education Index, Education Research Index, H.W. Wilson, OCLC, Research into Higher Education Abstracts, ProQuest, SCOPUS, Swets Information Services, Thomson Gale (Gale Group) and now also included in the Social Science Citation Index and Current Contents, Social & Behavioral Sciences.
Instructions to Authors

The language of the publication is English. Articles should not exceed 7,000 words and must include a clear and concise abstract of 100 to 150 words. Longer articles may be acceptable for publication consideration after agreement is reached with the Executive Editor. Book Reviews, Research Notes and Ideas are invited also, but these should not exceed 2,000 words. All submissions including abstract, figures, tables, and references must be double-spaced, and typed on one side only with at least one-inch margin on all sides. Contributions must be submitted in electronic form (as a Word document) along with a paper copy. To facilitate blind review, all indication of authorship should appear on a detachable cover page only. All suggestions for books and other types of materials for review must also be sent to the Executive Editor.
Submissions for review must be prepared according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association , published by the American Psychological Association, APA Order Department, PO Box 2710, Hyattsville, MD, 20784, USA. Submissions that are not prepared using the APA publication guidelines cannot be accepted for review. Figures and Tables Figures must be submitted in camera-ready format suitable for reproduction. If this is not possible, figures will be redrawn by the publishers. Type figure legends double-spaced on a separate sheet of paper. Indicate the title of the article and the number of the figure lightly in pencil on the back of each. The captions to illustrations should be placed together and also typed on a separate sheet. All figures and tables should be numbered separately using Arabic numerals, and placed together at the end of the manuscript. Clearly visible notes within the text (such as " Place Table 1 About Here ") should be used to indicate their approximate placement in the article.
Review by Editorial Board All papers are reviewed by members of the Editorial Board with expertise in the areas(s) represented by a paper, and/or invited reviewers with special competence in the area(s) covered. The Editors reserve the right to make minor alterations to all papers that are accepted for publication.
Citations, References, and Equations etc . The presentation of citations, references, equations and all other similar information should strictly conform to the APA Style Guide. Author(s) are responsible for checking the accuracy of these and ensuring that all in-text references appear in the Reference List at the end of the contribution.
