About the journal
The aim of the journal is to establish a line of communication with these regions of Europe. Previously isolated from the European mainstream, the Balkan and Black Sea regions are in need of serious comparative study as are the individual countries, no longer 'at the edge' of Europe.
The principal disciplines covered by the journal are politics, political economy, international relations and modern history; other disciplinary approaches are accepted as appropriate. The journal will take both an academic and also a more practical policy-oriented approach and hopes to compensate for the serious information deficit on the countries under consideration. It provides a unique opportunity to establish a new paradigm of analysis for the region and one that attempts to break away from the traditional ethnocentric approaches and develop a deeper and more fruitful understanding of the area.
South-East Europe and Black Sea Studies is abstracted/indexed in:
America: History and Life; C S A Worldwide Political Science Abstracts (Cambridge Scientific Abstracts); Current Abstracts; Historical Abstracts; Humanities International Index; Index Islamicus; International Bibliography of the Social Sciences; OCLC; Sociological Abstracts

Articles submitted to the Journal should be original contributions. Manuscripts are welcome on all areas covered by the Journal's scope and aims. If another version of the article is under consideration by another publication, or has been, or will be published elsewhere, authors should clearly indicate this at the time of submission. Authors should check that their article, including notes and references, conforms to the journal's style.

Practical information:

  • Articles should be between 7,000 and 10,000 words (including notes and references).
  • The article should begin with an italicized summary of around 100 words describing the main arguments and conclusions of the article.
  • The submission form has to be fully completed and sent along with the article.
  • To facilitate typesetting, authors must use endnotes rather than footnotes. Notes should be consecutively numbered through the text with a numeral corresponding to a list of notes at the end of the article.
  • Manuscripts should be double-spaced throughout on A4/Letter paper.
  • Each figure and table must be numbered, titled and sourced. Diagrams, charts and graphs should be saved additionally in individual files in .RTF format. These should be submitted in black and white. Tints should be avoided; use open patterns instead. Tables should also be saved individually as text using the appropriate function in your word processor. If this function is unavailable, tables should be prepared using tabs.
