About the journal

Aims and Scope

The prime aims of the European Journal of Education are:

  • To examine, compare and assess education policies, trends, reforms and programmes of European countries in an international perspective
  • To disseminate policy debates and research results to a wide audience of academics, researchers, practitioners and students of education sciences
  • To contribute to the policy debate at the national and European level by providing European administrators and policy-makers in international organisations, national and local governments with comparative and up-to-date material centred on specific themes of common interest.

Each issue is organised around a particular theme, with emphasis on commissioned papers requested by the individual editor responsible for the issue and a member of the Journal's Editorial Board. Space for submitted papers is, therefore, limited. These papers are subject to anonymous peer review by independent referees.

The Journal gives high priority to articles which provide a comparative perspective and offer a link between academic and policy issues. It favours viewpoints from various disciplines connected with education.

Instructions to Authors

Dear Authors,

We welcome your contributions to the European Journal of Education and hope that this information will be useful to you in submitting your article. The Journal contains two parts. Part I consists in the collection of articles that make up the thematic dossier and Part II contains articles on other themes that have been reviewed and selected for publication. In the Joint Editors' Letter (issue 1 of the year) you will find a list of the forthcoming themes. If you wish to submit an article on one of them, please bear in mind that we need to receive it at least six months before the expected publication date. In the case of the thematic dossier, the final decision will be left to the discretion of the Guest Editor. We are also pleased to consider proposals for thematic issues.

The Notes for Contributors can be downloaded here. The editorial team will be very pleased to help with information or advice before articles are submitted. All articles are peer reviewed by two readers, who are either members of the Editorial Board or members of the network of academics and correspondents who cooperate with the Journal.
