About the journal

General Information

The International Journal of Clinical Health Psychology is a quarterly publication produced by the Asociación Española de Psicología Conductual since 2001 with the collaboration of the Asociación Colombiana para el Avance de las Ciencias del Comportamiento (ABA-Colombia).

Our Journal publishes experimental, theoretical and applied articles that contribute to the advancement in any of the areas of clinical and health psychology. Manuscripts are published in English and Spanish.


Instructions to Authors
  1. International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology publishes manuscripts with a basic and applied emphasis, involving both theoretical and experimental areas which contribute to advances in any Clinical and Health Psychology field. It publishes Original Articles (Investigations), Review Articles, Brief Reports, Cases Reports, and Book Reviews.
    1. The manuscripts submitted to International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology should be unedited, should not be published previously, and should not be considered for publication elsewhere. Once the article has been submitted, and upon its possible publication, the authors are obligated to renounce their rights to reuse the material to the International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology .
      1. Original Articles and Review Articles should not exceed 30 pages typewritten on one side (25-30 lines per page), including figures, tables, and illustrations, Brief Reports and Cases Reports should not exceed 15 pages, and Book Reviews a maximum of 5 pages. The manuscripts can be written in Spanish, English or Portuguese. The first page of the manuscript should include the title in both Spanish (or Portuguese) and English, the corresponding author(s) complete name(s), institutional affiliation, and a complete mailing address (including an E-mail address) to send any correspondence and/or offprint requests and possible acknowledgements. The second page should include the title, an abstract (150-200 words) and the keywords (4-5), in both Spanish (or Portuguese) and English. The keywords should include the type of research methodology used following the classification proposed by Montero and Leon (2005): theoretical study, observational descriptive study, survey descriptive study, experiment, quasi experiment, ex post facto study, single case experimental study, instrumental study, and qualitative study [Montero, I. and León, O.G. The third page should begin with the manuscript title and be followed by the introduction. The figures and tables should each appear on a separate page and should be numbered consecutively at the end of the text, indicating their approximate location in the text.
      1. Original Articles should use the following schema: introduction, method (sample, instruments, procedure, results, discussion/conclusions, and references.         The articles describing the instrumental studies should follow the procedure established by Carretero-Dios and Pérez (2007):
        study justification, conceptual and theoretical framework related to construct to be assessed, items construction and item theoretical assessment, item analysis, internal structure study, reliability, and studies to obtain external evidences of validity [Carretero-Dios, H. y Pérez, C.         Review articles
        and Brief Reports should follow a coherent format.

        Cases reports should follow the format provided by Buela-Casal and Sierra (2002): abstract, patient identification, analysis of the motive of the consultation, history of the problem, analysis and description of the problem behavior, setting of treatment goals, study of the therapeutic objectives, selection of most adequate treatments, selection and application of the evaluative techniques and analysis of the results obtained in this phase, treatment application, evaluation of the treatment efficacy and/or effectiveness, follow-up, and observations [Buela-Casal, G. and Sierra, J.C.         Book Reviews should use the following structure: topic, source of the publication, author(s), content structure, who the book is directed to, and personal judgment.
      1. The manuscript’s main text should follow the publication guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA) provided in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.) (2001). References within the text include the author’s name and the year of publication, appearing both within parenthesis. When the author’s name forms part of the text, only the year of publication appears within parenthesis. Two or more continuous references should be arranged alphabetically by authors?names. When there are more than two or less than six authors, all authors should be listed in the first citation. In subsequent citations, the name of the first author should be followed by "et al.".  For six or more authors, the first author should always appear, followed by "et al.". If there are more than one article for the same author(s) during the same year, each year should be followed by the letters a, b, c, ...
      2. The list of references should appear in alphabetical order and should include all the cited publications in the text, including all the authors.  This list should have the following format:
      • Books: Author (last name followed by a comma and the initials followed each by a period; various authors are separated by a comma and a comma is placed before the “and"; year (within parenthesis) followed by a period; full title in cursive followed by a period; city and edition followed by a colon; editorial.
      • Chapter of a book: Author(s) of the chapter; year; title of the chapter; “In" name of the compilers of the book, using the author’s initials and last name; the abbreviation “Ed."s) within parenthesis; title of the book in cursive; first and last page of chapter within parenthesis, preceded by the abbreviation “pp." city where published followed by a colon; editorial.
      • Journals: Author(s); year; title of the article followed by a period; the journal’s complete name in cursive and followed by a comma; volume number (without appearing the expression “volume?or “vol." followed by a comma; first and last page of the article.
      • In the case of any existing doubt(s), consult the APA publication manual (2001).

      1. International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology will notify the author(s) when the manuscript is received and inform them whether the paper is accepted within 120 days. Two members of the Editorial Board (peer reviewers), with special competence in the represented area, will revise each submitted manuscript and will send a report to the Journal suggesting or denying the manuscript’s publication. If an article written in Castilian or Portuguese is accepted an English version will be required and included on the website of the journal.  A copy of the article in the PDF Adobe format as well as a copy of the journal will be sent to the first author  Some of the associated production cost will be paid by the authors.

      2. The opinions and contents of the manuscript published in the International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology are under exclusive responsibility of the author(s) and therefore they will be responsible for obtaining copyright permission for reproducing the material published in other publications.
