Instructions to Authors
Note to Authors: please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors.***
Sociological Spectrum is a refereed interdisciplinary social science journal that publishes theoretical, methodological, quantitative and qualitative substantive research, and applied research articles in the areas of sociology, social psychology, anthropology, and political science. Generally, it does not publish book reviews or comments.
Submission of a manuscript to this journal is understood to imply that it or substantial parts of it have not been published or accepted for publication elsewhere and that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Submission of manuscripts
Original and three copies of the manuscript should be submitted to the editor. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. With the manuscript please include a $10.00 fee payable to the Mid-South Sociological Association to help defray processing costs. Receipt of manuscript will be acknowledged only if self-addressed, stamped postcard is included.
Transfer of copyright
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copy-righted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. This form will be provided by the editors.
Preparation of Manuscripts
All manuscripts must be typed double-spaced on 8 1/2 x 11" papers with 1" to 1 1/2" margins all around. Manuscripts that do not conform to these requirements will be returned to the authors for correction and thus be delayed in publication.
Illustrations
Four-colour illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first figure is $1,200. Subsequent figures, totalling no more than 4 text pages, are $500.00 each. Good quality colour prints should be provided, in their final size. Figures needing reduction or enlargement will be charged an additional 25 percent. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of colour prints deemed unacceptable.
References
Should be listed on separate pages following the text, typed double-spaced, and should refer only to material cited in the manuscript. They should be listed in alphabetical order and otherwise follow the current American Sociological Review style. In text, reference citations should include author, year of publication, and, where needed, page numbers (Brown 1978, p. 54). Identify subsequent citations of the source in the same way as the first, not using ibid., op. cit., or loc. cit. Give both last names for dual authors; for more than two use "et al." in the text. When two authors have the same last name, use identifying initials in the text. For institutional authorship, supply minimum identification from the beginning of the complete citation (U.S. Bureau of the Census 1963, p. 117).
The reference list must be complete and include all references in the text. The use of "et al." is not acceptable in the reference list; provide the names of all authors. If there is more than one reference to the same author and year, distinguish them by the letters a, b, etc. added to the year (Levy 1963a, p. 12). The first letter of each word in an article title should be capitalized. Titles of books and journals will be printed in italics, so each word of the title should be underlined. Give the publisher's name in as brief a form as is fully intelligible. For example, John A. Wiley & Sons should be Wiley. If the cited material is unpublished, use -Forthcoming- with the name of journal or publisher. Otherwise use "Unpublished".
