About the journal
The journal publishes original research, survey papers and book reviews on the ethical and positive aspects of welfare economics and collective choice theory. The appropriate topics comprise social choice and voting theory (normative, positive and strategic sides) as well as all aspects of welfare theory (Pareto optimality; welfare criteria; fairness, justice, and equity; externalities; public goods; optimal taxation; incentives in public decision making; cost-benefit analysis; etc.). Articles on choice and order theory may also be published if their results can be applied to these topics. Papers both verbal and formal in style are being solicited.

Manuscript Preparation
The following points should be borne in mind when manuscripts are prepared for the journal: Form and content

The form and content of the manuscript should be carefully checked to exclude the need for corrections at the proof stage. The costs involved in making any subsequent changes in the text will be charged to the authors. Manuscripts must be typed on one side of the paper only and with wide margins. Each paper is to be provided with a short abstract in English, which should not exceed 12 typewritten lines. | Emphasis words

Footnotes to the text should be avoided. | References The list of references should include only works that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication. Personal communications should only be mentioned in the text. If available the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) of the cited literature should be added at the end of the reference in question. The references should be listed in alphabetical order by the first author’s name and numbered consecutively. Figures should be cited in the text and each numbered consecutively throughout. Lower-case letters (a, b, etc.) should be used to identify figure parts. Please submit good-quality prints. The inscriptions should be clearly legible. Figure legends must be brief, self-sufficient explanations of the illustrations. | Tables

Open Choice Publication
In addition to normal publication process (whereby an article submitted to the journal and access to that article granted to customers who have purchased a subscription), Springer now provides an alternative publishing option: Springer Open Choice. ASpringer Open Choice article receives all the benefits of regular ‘subscription-based?article, but in addition is made available publicly through Springer’s online platform SpringerLink. To publish via Springer Open Choice, upon acceptance please visit the link below to complete the relevant order form and provide the required payment information. Payment must be received in before publication or articles will publish as regular subscription-model articles. We regret that Springer Open Choice cannot be ordered for published articles.
Page Proofs
A pdf file of the proofs is sent to the author. The provisional page numbers given on the proof may be referred to during the correction procedure. The final page numbers are inserted by the publisher when an issue is ready to go to press.

Authors who prepare their papers with TeX are encouraged to ask for Springer-Verlag’s TeX macropackages, either by letter to Springer or electronically via:

Offprints
One complimentary copy is supplied for each author. Twenty-five (25) offprints of each contribution are provided free of charge. Orders for additional offprints can be placed by returning the order form with the corrected proofs. When the author orders additional offprints, he is entitled to receive a pdf file of his article for his own personal use.
