About the journal
Political Theory publishes articles on political philosophy from every philosophical, ideological and methodological perspective. It offers essays in historical political thought, modern political theory, normative and analytical philosophy, and the history of ideas, as well as critical assessments of current work.
Broad Scope Political Theory serves as the leading forum for the development and exchange of political ideas. The journal is broad in scope and international in coverage. Political Theory has no single affiliation or orientation, and it is dedicated to serving the entire political theory community. Political Theory's carefully refereed articles discuss current political philosophies and cast new light on historical ones. The journal covers philosophers such as as Aristotle, Marx, Foucault, Hobbes, Locke and Heidegger. Areas of study include justice, feminism, liberalism, communism, utilitarianism, political order, enlightenment and modernism.
Regular Features Political Theory brings you the latest research on political philosophy. Its international editorial board is dedicated to giving you thought-provoking and stimulating scholarship in a variety of forms, including: Feature Articles ¡¤ Critical Responses ¡¤ Books in Review ¡¤ Review Essays ¡¤ Special-Topic Symposia ¡¤ Annual Index.
Instructions to Authors
Political Theory is an international journal of political philosophy open to contributions from every methodological, philosophical, and ideological perspective. Essays in historical political thought and modern political theory, normative and analytic philosophy, history of ideas, and assessment of current work are equally welcome. The journal has no particularistic affiliation or orientation and is meant to serve the entire political theory community.
Manuscripts: (Preparation) Manuscripts should be no longer than 9,000 words (text) and 2,500 words (notes). The entire paper must be double-spaced, with one-inch margins and 12-point font, printed on one side of the page only. Notes should be placed at the end of the text, also double-spaced, 12-point font. Text and notes should conform to The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th edition. (Additional material) Authors must include separate from the manuscript: (a) a title page with full contact information, plus a brief biographical paragraph noting current affiliation, research interests, and recent publications; and (b) an abstract of no more than 150 words, and five keywords to facilitate electronic access. All identifying information should be removed from the manuscript. Manuscripts can be returned only if a self-addressed, stamped envelope is enclosed. Manuscripts that do not meet the submission standards will not be considered. (Submission) Submission of a manuscript implies commitment to publish in the journal. Authors submitting manuscripts to the journal should not simultaneously submit them to another journal, nor should manuscripts have been published elsewhere in substantially similar form or with substantially similar content. Queries concerning what constitutes prior publication should be addressed to the editor. Authors should send three hard copies and one electronic copy of the manuscript (either on a disk or by e-mail attachment, see address below) to Professor Mary G. Critical responses to essays published in Political Theory are welcome. They should be no longer than eight pages in length, including notes and references.
