About the journal
The Journal of Urban Technology publishes articles that review and analyze developments in urban technologies as well as articles that study the history and the political, economic, environmental, social, esthetic, and ethical effects of those technologies. The goal of the journal is, through education and discussion, to maximize the positive and minimize the adverse effects of technology on cities. The journal's mission is to open a conversation between specialists and non-specialists (or among practitioners of different specialities) and is designed for both scholars and a general audience whose businesses, occupations, professions, or studies require that they become aware of the effects of new technologies on urban environments.
Instructions to Authors
General Information The journal's mission is to open a conversation between specialists and non-specialists (or among practitioners of different specialities) on ways the wise use of new and existing technologies can improve the economic, environmental, and social conditions of those living in cities.
Although many readers of the Journal of Urban Technology are academics, scientists, and engineers - many are not. Therefore, explanatory footnotes are kept to a minimum and the academic apparatus of citations, while present, is removed from the body of the text. Additionally, the editors of the journal work with authors to produce a jargon-free, direct, and active prose style.
Authors should submit manuscripts of 5,000 to 8,000 words may be submitted via mail or email to the address below. Papers should be submitted as Word documents with all tables, figures and illustrations presented as clearly labelled separate files. JUT uses American spelling. Manuscripts should be submitted to: Richard E. Hanley, Editor, Journal of Urban Technology, New York City Technical College, 300 Jay Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201, USA.Tel: (718) 260 5130, Fax: (718) 347 9234 Email: rhanley@citytech.cuny.edu
How to Prepare a Bibliography for JUT To accommodate our goal of including citation apparatus, but making it unobtrusive to non-specialists, authors are requested to minimize using explanatory footnotes and to use the following guidelines for citations:
1. Put all references on a separate page and arrange them alphabetically according to the last name of the author. Do not invert the names of the authors.
3. Number all the references consecutively.
3. When citing a reference in the text, simply put the number of the reference in parentheses in the appropriate place in the text. When quoting directly, include in those parentheses the abbreviation p. and the page number of the quotation.
