About the journal
For almost four decades, professionals have relied on The Journal of Special Education (JSE) for timely, sound research in the area of special education. JSE provides research articles and scholarly reviews by expert authors in all subspecialities of special education for individuals with disabilities ranging from mild to severe. JSE publishes
- traditional, ethnographic, and single-subject research
- intervention studies such as parent-delivered intervention and instruction in reading comprehension
- integrative reviews on timely issues, for example, "Response to Instruction," and "5 years of OSEP-sponsored intervention research"
- critical commentaries on issues such as state policies on assessment participation and accommodations, special education teacher preparation
- special thematic issues, for example, "What is special about special education?"
JSE is the sixth-ranked journal in total citations in the Special Education category in the 2004 JCR Social Science Edition of the Institute for Scientific Information. The impact factor for 2004 was .902.

Instructions to Authors
The Journal of Special Education (JSE) is a multidisciplinary publication presenting primary research and scholarly reviews related to special education. Guidelines specified herein were prepared for the convenience of authors and supersede those previously announced in JSE. Information concerning types of articles appropriate for submission to JSE, procedures used to select manuscripts for publication, and details concerning submission of work follow.
