About the journal
The Journal of Psychology is a uniquely interdisciplinary journal that concentrates on work that attempts to integrate divergent data, fields, and theories of psychology and related disciplines or analyzes the interrelationships of novel populations. The Journal offers a forum for genuinely new avenues of thinking and research, particularly with reference to education, industry, management, and measurement and assessment. Peer-reviewed articles in one recent issue concerned, for example, the effects of feedback on intelligence test performance, the effects of depression on interpersonal perceptions among students, employer use of personality tests in job recruitment, and the relation of impulsivity to suicide ideation in a prison population. The Journal also emphasizes original criticism of the present status of the behavioral disciplines.
Instructions to Authors
The Journal of Psychology is an interdisciplinary journal that publishes empirical research and theoretical articles in applied areas of psychology including clinical, counseling, measurement/assessment, school, educational, industrial, and personnel psychology. In addition, interdisciplinary research that integrates psychology and other fields is also solicited (e.g., psychology and law, psychology and consumer behavior, psychology and religion). Submissions should be characterized by methodological rigor, by effect sizes for inferential tests, and by reliability and validity information for all instruments, including measures of internal consistency. Studies of monograph length in areas appropriate to this journal would be welcomed by Genetic, Social, and General Psychology Monographs.
Print all manuscripts on heavy typewriter paper, 8 1/2 X 11 in. (22 X 28 cm), double space all lines, and leave 11/2-in. (4-cm) margins on each side for editorial work. Submit the original version and one copy. Retain a second copy for proofing. Do not fold manuscripts. Enclose a submission letter, with a statement that the manuscript is not under concurrent consideration elsewhere and that you can vouch that the article is based on original research. In addition, the letter should state, where applicable, that (a) APA and IRB guidelines were followed in the treatment of participants, and (b) informed consent was granted by the participants and that they were debriefed. Each manuscript undergoes a blind review, a process ordinarily requiring 2 to 3 months.
Manuscripts must adhere to the conventions of style and format described in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed., 2001). The checklist on pages 379-382 of the manual is especially helpful in preparing manuscripts for submission. Include a separate title page that lists the departmental affiliations of all authors. Type the author identification notes on a separate page; include a complete mailing address for reprint requests. Non-glossy prints must be supplied for all figures once the manuscript is accepted for publication. Accepted manuscripts will be edited for clarity and adherence to APA and Heldref style rules.
After an article has been accepted, it should be submitted electronically as a double-spaced Word file, with minimal formatting, in Times or Times New Roman. Do not use electronic style sheets, forced section breaks, or automatic footnotes, E-mail tables in a separate file and figures in their original source files. Send a hard copy version of text, tables, and figures as backup.
Each author receives two complimentary copies of the issue in which his or her article appears and permission to reproduce additional copies of that article. Contributors may order reprints at their own expense through Heldref Publications.
