About the journal
Growth and Change: A Journal of Urban and Regional Policy welcomes manuscripts from scholars and professionals in all disciplines and specialties. Contributions from economics, geography, regional science, urban and regional planning, public finance, sociology, and agricultural economics are particularly encouraged. Increasingly we are interested in submissions that bring a multi-disciplinary perspective to bear on the problems addressed. Both policy and theoretical implications of topics and a focus on urban and regional development in domestic and international contexts are very appropriate.
Innovative approaches and manuscripts, which address currently relevant issues in both global and national contexts, are sought. Examples of research that relate to urban and regional development include themes of innovation and technology, the digital economy, global production networks and their impact at a variety of geographic scales, entrepreneurship, economic restructuring (labor issues, outsourcing, knowledge workers), transportation (sustainability issues, travel behaviors, logistics and supply chain for competitive advantage), urban economics, rural futures and agriculture in the global economy.

Submitting Manuscripts to Growth and Change
Growth and Change welcomes manuscripts from scholars and professionals in all disciplines and specialties. Increasingly we are interested in submissions that bring a multi-disciplinary perspective to bear on the problems addressed. ARTICLES
The manuscripts submitted to Growth and Change should typically be outcomes of research efforts which emanate from a key problem or issue and seek to develop this by deepening our understanding and contributing new insights and possibly data to existing knowledge. Both innovative quantitative and qualitative methodologies are encouraged. Each article should be accompanied by an abstract that briefly summarizes the central problem and the conclusions. All manuscripts should begin with an introduction to the problem or issue. This should be followed by the discussion of the theoretical bases or conceptual framework and should include a thorough literature review relating the current piece to previous and ongoing research. Where relevant, an explanation of the methodology should be included. This should then be followed by an analysis and a discussion/interpretation of the results. Finally, a conclusion which clearly states the findings should be provided. Variations on this typical structure may be appropriate given the nature of the submission.
PERSPECTIVES
Growth and Change publishes pieces under the name "Perspectives," which we define, in general, as essays intended to provoke thought and possibly debate about some aspect of the areas of interest covered by Growth and Change. These may take the form of a conceptual statement, methodological or theoretical inquiry, timely literature review, summary of the state of research in a particular field, and the like. Subsequent commentaries and replies, which further illuminate the same issues, may also be published. We strongly encourage the submission of such essays and endeavor to publish one or more in each issue of the journal.
NOTES
Growth and Change also encourages and occasionally publishes short contributions which do not involve full-scale analyses or pretend significantly to extend theory, methodology, or policy. However, they should provide useful information, perhaps in an empirical sense, or as an increment to theory or to extend a methodological treatment of particular issues. Such contributions, normally fewer than 1500 words, are welcome and are peer reviewed.
Book Reviews
The journal also publishes solicited and unsolicited book reviews which are appropriate to the publishing themes and are of interest to our wide audience of readers.
The Manuscript Submission and Review Process
An electronic copy of the manuscript should be submitted in Microsoft Word without tracking changes. The author anonymized titled manuscript and abstract should be submitted as one attachment and the cover page identifying the author(s), acknowledgements, etc. as a second separate attachment. Since the review process is double blind, self-referencing should be avoided. These references can be added before publication. All documents, figures and tables should be initially submitted in Microsoft Word and not in pdf form. Figures may ultimately be required in electronic Postcript (EPS) format.
Growth and Change uses the Chicago Manual of Style as its general guide to mechanical stylistics. All manuscripts should be written in the third person. More information will be furnished upon request.
Manuscripts should be double-spaced, no more than 35 pages in length, preceded by an abstract and followed by references and graphics.
The editorial staff makes every effort to complete the initial screening within two weeks and to report the results to the author. If the manuscript is considered further and held for external review, at least three outside referees are selected and contacted. The readers are asked to provide their reviews within one month. Every effort is made to provide authors with the verbatim reviews and a publishing decision within three months or as quickly thereafter as possible. We are obviously dependent on the prompt return of reviews by our referees.
With the submission each author must state that the contribution is original, has not already been published in whole or substantial part, except for papers published or posted electronically mainly for local circulation (as in a workshop series), on an author's personal website, or as a working paper, and do not infringe the copyright, moral rights or other intellectual property rights of any other person and has not been submitted concurrently to any other journals.
Beginning with manuscripts for Volume 37, issue 1, upon acceptance for publication the author must sign an exclusive licensing form (ELF) giving Blackwell Publishing an exclusive license to publish and to administer subsidiary rights for their article. The author will remain the copyright owner of the Article, unless copyright is owned by their employer. The article will not be published unless an ELF has been signed and received by Blackwell Publishing.
