About the journal
|
Description:
European Urban and Regional Studies is a vital resource which meets the needs of todays policy-makers, academic analysts and commentators.
This major journal provides a means of dialogue between different European traditions of intellectual enquiry on urban and regional development issues. In addition to exploring the ways in which space makes a difference to the future economic, social and political map of Europe, European Urban and Regional Studies highlights the connections between theoretical analysis and policy development. The journal also places changes in Europe in a broader global context.
Truly European Coverage
Spanning from the Atlantic to the Urals and from the Arctic Circle to the Mediterranean, European Urban & Regional Studies offers the fullest geographical coverage of any journal currently available in the field.

Instructions to Authors
Three copies of the manuscript (typewritten), illustrations, caption list, and tables should be submitted to the Managing Editor, David Sadler, Department of Geography, University of Liverpool, Liverpool, L69 3BX, UK
In order to facilitate publication, authors should submit carefully checked manuscripts adhering to the instructions set out below. Manuscripts should not normally exceed 8000 words and should be typed double line-spaced on A4 paper (21 x 29.7 cm) with a 3cm margin all round. They should be accompanied by an abstract of not more than 250 words. Pages should be numbered consecutively throughout.
All manuscripts will be subject to anonymous peer review by at least two specialist referees. If the manuscript is accepted for publication, authors should, where possible, supply a word-processed disk or send via e-mail. Authors are requested to ensure that the manuscript and any file sent by disk or e-mail are final versions of the paper and are identical.
Manuscripts should be arranged in the following way.
1 Front page
The front page should include only the title.
A covering letter should give the author(s) name(s), affiliation (full address) and the telephone number and indicate the principal author responsible for correspondence concerning the manuscript (it will be assumed that this is the first named co-author unless otherwise stated). The covering letter should also include details of e-mail address, fax and telephone numbers where possible.
2 The main text
All articles must be accompanied by a summary of 250 words in English.
Tables and line diagrams should be provided at the end (not incorporated into the manuscript) and their position for eventual insertion should be keyed into the text in the appropriate position.
Acknowledgements, where required, should appear at the end of the text.
No more than three levels of subheading should be used. Indicate in the left hand margin the level of heading required (A, B, C).
Underline those words and letters that are to appear in italic, and circle in red those words that are to appear in bold.
Spelling should follow that of the Oxford English Dictionary; authors are responsible for consistency in spelling and nomenclature.
Use Arabic numerals for all page numbers, tables, diagrams, etc.
Footnotes should not be used. If necessary, add 'Endnotes' in numerical sequence on the final page, referred to in text as (1), (2), etc.
3 Language
In general, articles should be submitted in English, although in exceptional circumstances assistance with translation may be possible. The Journal is committed to a non-sexist, non-racist use of language.
4 References
Use the Harvard system, which in the text cites authors and year of publication, and place the full reference in a List of References at the end of the main text. For example:
In the text these references should appear as follows: (Holland, 1979); (Amin and Robins, 1990); (Fox-Przeworski et al., 1991)
Note: If two or more publications in the same year are cited for one author, add a, b, etc., after the date.
5 Tables
These should be typed (double line-spaced) on separate sheets and contain only three horizontal rules. Tables should be numbered in Arabic consecutively throughout the manuscript coupled with a short, descriptive title above the table. Any relevant footnotes should be placed below and be suitably identified using a, b, c, etc. below.
6 Illustrations
All illustrations are termed 'Figures' and referred to as such in the manuscript. They should be numbered consecutively with a marginal note to indicate their approximate position within the text.
Line diagrams should be presented in a form suitable for immediate reproduction (i.e. not requiring redrawing by the Publisher), each on a separate sheet of (A4 size). They should be reproducible to a final printed width of either 68 mm (single column) or 138 mm (double column) and a maximum depth of 196 mm. Labels (i.e. letters within the boundary of the diagram) should use initial capital letters for the first word only (except for proper nouns of course). Remember that the figure will be reduced in size for printing, so aim for a final height of 2 mm for the capitals when printed.
Half-tones are acceptable only if they are essential to the understanding of the text and should be supplied as clear, contrasting, glossy prints of black and white photographs.
Do not attach captions to figures, but provide as separate copy. All Figure captions should be numbered corresponding to the order referred to in the text, and typed out in full.
(Note: All pages referred to in items 1-5 and the caption list referred to in item 6 should be numbered in a consecutive sequence throughout in the top right-hand corner.)
7 Euro-commentaries section
Shorter comments for the Euro-commentaries section (of not more than 2000 words) should follow the above guidelines except that only two copies need be submitted. They will be reviewed by the Editorial Board.
8 Submission and acceptance of articles
All manuscripts will be assessed anonymously by at least two independent referees. Constructive criticism provided by the referees will be forwarded to the author. Authors submitting manuscripts do so on the understanding that the work has not been published previously and, should the work be accepted for publication, that: (a) the author(s) obtain the necessary permission to use material already protected by copyright; and (b) before publication authors are requested to assign copyright to Sage Publications Ltd, subject to retaining their right to reuse the material in other publications written or edited by themselves and due to be published preferably at least one year after initial publication in the Journal.
A set of proofs, together with author queries, will be sent to the author/principal author, who is expected to check the proofs and either return the proofs, or send a list of corrections, within a specified time period.
The author/principal author will be sent 25 offprints of the published version, plus one copy of the issue of the Journal on publication.
Books for review should be sent to: Kathy Wood, Department of Geography, Durham University, South Road, Durham DH1 3LE, UK.
