About the journal
AIDS Education and Prevention is an international journal designed to support the efforts of professionals working to prevent HIV and AIDS. Keeping readers up-to-date on the latest information in the field, AIDS Education and Prevention publishes scientific articles by leading authorities from many disciplines, such as public health, psychosocial, ethical, and public policy concerns related to HIV and AIDS. In addition to discussing models of AIDS education and prevention, the journal covers research reports on the effectiveness of new strategies and programs, debates about key issues, and reviews of book and video resources.

Instructions to Authors
AIDS Education and Prevention: An Interdisciplinary Journal is an international, peer reviewed, educational journal. The editor invites the submission of manuscripts relevant to the prevention of HIV/AIDS. The Journal considers original manuscripts as well as commentaries and notes from the field.

Manuscripts are considered with the understanding that they have not been published previously and are not under consideration by any other publication. Manuscripts are acknowledged within a week to ten days upon receipt. The average review time is 10 weeks. Allow two more weeks for processing, mailing, etc. Rejected manuscripts will be destroyed after thirty (30) days.

All manuscripts are reviewed initially by the editor. Those manuscripts which do not meet the criteria in terms of topic and format will be rejected immediately. Those manuscripts which are accepted for review will be sent to two peer reviewers. Due to space restraints, a limited number of manuscripts will be accepted for publication each year. Author and peer reviewer identities are kept confidential. The existence of a manuscript under review is not revealed to anyone other than peer reviewers and the editorial staff. Authors will be provided with reviewers' comments.

All published manuscripts become the permanent property of the publisher and may not be published elsewhere without written permission.

Authors will be provided with page proofs to check the accuracy of typesetting. Proofs must be checked carefully and returned within three days of receipt.

Format:

All papers must be typed, doubled-spaced, on one side of standard 8.5 x 11 or 8.5 x 12 white paper. Four copies should be submitted; each must be clearly legible, have all pages numbered, and contain all figures and tables. Manuscript pages should be limited to no more than 20 pages including references. There should be no more than 4 tables and/or figures. Authors should consult the publication manual of the American Psychological Association, 5th Edition (2001) for rules on format and style. All papers submitted must conform to high ethical considerations and should be written in non-sexist language. Authors should not include their names or any author identification anywhere in the body of the manuscript. A disk labeled with the name of the word processing program used should accompany the final revision of accepted manuscripts.

Material should be assembled in the following order:

    1. Cover Letter. The senior author must sign the letter. A statement must be included stating that the content has neither been published nor is simultaneously being considered for publication elsewhere. Author's address, telephone number, fax number and e-mail address (if available) should be included.

    2. Title Page. The first title page should contain the title, list of authors with degrees and affiliations, sources of support, and full address and phone number (e-mail if available) of the author to whom proofs and correspondence are to be sent. A second title page should contain the title only for purposes of mailing for blind review.

    3. Acknowledgments. The acknowledgments should appear on a separate page. Acknowledgments should not appear elsewhere in the manuscript.

    4. Abstract. The abstract and key words should be on a separate page following the acknowledgment page. The abstract should be limited to 150 words or less. It must be factual and comprehensive. Abbreviations and general statements (e.g., "the significance of the results are discussed") should be avoided. Authors are requested to provide up to six key words or phrases.

    5. References. References are to be listed alphabetically at the end of the paper and referred to in the text by name and year in parenthesis. When a work has at least three authors but fewer than six, all authors' names should be given at the first citation in the text; thereafter, only the first author's name is given, followed by et al. When a work has six or more authors, only the name of the first author should be cited followed by et al. for the first and subsequent citations. References should include titles of papers and inclusive page numbers.

Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of their references and for correct text citation.

    6. Illustrations and Tables. Illustrations (photographs, drawings, diagrams and charts) must be camera ready and are to be numbered in one consecutive series of Arabic numerals. They should be clearly labeled. The captions for illustrations should be typed on a separate sheet of paper. Identify figures on the back with author's name and number of illustration on the final revision only. Author identification should not be included on copies to be sent out for blind review.

Tables should be numbered and referred to by number in the text. Each table is to be typed on a separate sheet of paper.

    7. TREND Statement checklist for papers reporting on intervention evaluations with nonrandomized designs. To develop standardized and transparent reporting for intervention evaluation studies with nonrandomized designs, authors are encouraged to use the Transparent Reporting of Evaluations with Nonrandomized Designs (TREND) Statement checklist. These are guidelines for reporting of theories used, descriptions of intervention and comparison conditions, research study design, and methods used in adjusting for possible biases in evaluation studies. The TREND statement checklist was first published in the American Journal of Public Health, March 2004, Vol. 94, No. 3, pages 361-366. It is also available at the following website: http://www.TREND-statement.org.

Copyright:

No manuscript can be accepted for publication without a signed copyright transfer. Contributors are responsible for obtaining permission from copyright owners if they use an illustration, table or lengthy quote (100+ words) that has been published elsewhere. Contributors should write both the publisher and author of such material, requesting nonexclusive world rights in all languages for use in the article and future editions of it.
