About the journal

The International Journal of Tourism Research will promote and enhance research developments in the field of tourism. The journal will provide an international platform for debate and dissemination of research findings whilst also facilitating the discussion of new research areas and techniques. IJTR will continue to add a vibrant and exciting channel for those interested in tourism and hospitality research developments. This function will be further enhanced by the provision of regular, book, conference and web reviews in addition to research articles.

The scope of the journal is international and encompasses research into tourism aspects as well as the development of new research approaches. It will continue to include high quality research papers in any area of tourism, including reviews of literature in the field and empirical papers on tourism issues.

The journal welcomes submissions based upon both primary research and reviews including papers in areas that may not directly be tourism based but concern a topic that is of interest to researchers in the field of tourism, such as economics, marketing, sociology and statistics. All papers are subject to strict double blind peer review by the international research community.

Author Guidelines

Manuscript Submission. The International Journal of Tourism Research operates an online submission and peer review system that allows authors to submit articles online and track their progress via a web interface. Please read the remainder of these instructions to authors and then click http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jtr to navigate to the International Journal of Tourism Research online submission site.

All papers must be submitted via the online system.

File types. Preferred formats for the text and tables of your manuscript are .doc, .rtf, .ppt, .xls. LaTeX files may be submitted provided that an .eps or .pdf file is provided in addition to the source files. Figures may be provided in .tiff or .eps format.

Important information for authors using LaTeX. If you have used LaTeX to prepare your manuscript you should observe the following instructions:

Initial submission: For reviewing purposes you should upload either an .eps, .pdf or .rtf created from your source files.

Submission of a revised manuscript: When submitting your revision you must still upload an .eps, .pdf or .rtf for reviewing purposes. In addition you must upload your LaTeX source files. If your manuscript is accepted for publication we will use the files you upload to typeset your article within a totally digital workflow.

Authors must only supply by postal mail to the Editorial Office:

a Copyright Transfer Agreement with original signature(s) - without this we are unable to accept the submission, and

permission grants - if the manuscript contains extracts, including illustrations, from other copyright works (including material from on-line or intranet sources) it is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission from the owners of the publishing rights to reproduce such extracts using the Wiley Permission Request Form .

The Copyright Transfer Form and the Permissions Form should be sent to the editorial office that has received the submitted manuscript. The forms must be sent immediately following the online submission of your article.

Submission of a manuscript will be held to imply that it contains original unpublished work and is not being submitted for publication elsewhere at the same time. Submitted material will not be returned to the author, unless specifically requested.

This journal operates a double blind reviewing process whereby the Reviewer is not aware of the Author's identity. In order to facilitate this please follow the instructions below very carefully. Ensure your manuscript text does not contain any direct reference to you or your co-Authors. Upload the main text of your manuscript with the file designation Main Document. The title page should contain just the title and keywords.

Manuscript style. The language of the journal is English. All submissions including book reviews must have a title, and have a margin of 3cm all round. Illustrations and tables must be on separate sheets, and not be incorporated into the text.

The title page must list the full title, short title and names and affiliations of all authors. Give the full address, including email, telephone and fax, of the author who is to check the proofs.

Include the name(s) of any sponsor(s) of the research contained in the paper, along with grant number(s) .

Supply a summary of up to 100 words for all articles [except book reviews]. A summary is a concise summary of the whole paper, not just the conclusions, and is understandable without reference to the rest of the paper. It should contain no citation to other published work.

Include up to six keywords that describe your paper for indexing purposes.

Papers submitted for publication should normally be between 4,000 to 7,000 words.

Reference style . References should be quoted in the text as name and year within brackets and listed at the end of the paper alphabetically. Where reference is made to more than one work by the same author published in the same year, identify each citation in the text as follows: (Collins, 1998a), (Collins, 1998b). Where three or more authors are listed in the reference list, please cite in the text as (Collins et al ., 1998)

All references must be complete and accurate. Online citations should include date of access. If necessary, cite unpublished or personal work in the text but do not include it in the reference list. References should be listed in the following style:

Beaver H, Kettler P, Scholes M. 1970. The association between market determined and accounting determined risk measures. Accounting Review 45 (3):654-682.

Drucker P. 1992. In Managing for the Future . Butterworth-Heinemann: Oxford.

Illustrations. Upload each figure as a separate file in either .tiff or .eps format, with the lead author's name, the figure number and the top of the figure indicated. Compound figures e.g. 1a, b, c should be uploaded as one figure. Tints are not acceptable. Lettering must be of a reasonable size that would still be clearly legible upon reduction, and consistent within each figure and set of figures. Where a key to symbols is required, please include this in the artwork itself, not in the figure legend. All illustrations must be supplied at the correct resolution:

Black and white and colour photos - 300 dpi

Graphs, drawings, etc - 800 dpi preferred; 600 dpi minimum

Combinations of photos and drawings (black and white and colour) - 500 dpi

Tables should be part of the main document and should be placed after the references. If the table is created in excel the file should be uploaded separately.

The cost of printing colour illustrations in the journal will be charged to the author. If colour illustrations are supplied electronically in either TIFF or EPS format, they may be used in the PDF of the article at no cost to the author, even if this illustration was printed in black and white in the journal. The PDF will appear on the Wiley Online Library site.

Copyright. To enable the publisher to disseminate the author's work to the fullest extent, the author must sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement , transferring copyright in the article from the author to the publisher, and submit the original signed agreement with the article presented for publication. A copy of the agreement to be used (which may be photocopied) can be found in the first issue of each volume of the International Journal of Tourism Research . Copies may also be obtained from the journal editor or publisher, or may be printed from this website.

Further Information. Proofs will be sent to the corresponding author for checking. This stage is to be used only to correct errors that may have been introduced during the production process. Prompt return of the corrected proofs, preferably within two days of receipt, will minimise the risk of the paper being held over to a later issue. Free access of the final PDF offprint of your article will be available via Author Services only. Please therefore sign up for Author Services if you would like to access your PDF offprint and enjoy the many other benefits the service offers. Further offprints and copies of the journal may be ordered. There is no page charge to authors.
