Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice: Improved Coordination and Integration- A Special Issue of CWLA's Child Welfare Journal
This special issue of Child Welfare addresses current issues in juvenile justice, particularly how various agencies are integrating child welfare services with juvenile justice to better serve youth. It describes an effort to reduce child abuse in Durham, North Carolina, by 50% within 10 years using a preventive system of care. Also, the issue illustrates the new work of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, which is merging child welfare and juvenile justice agencies by creating a common culture and new financial systems.

Instructions to Authors
Child Welfare JournalLaunched in 1921, this scholarly, peer-reviewed journal keeps readers abreast of the special problems facing millions of children--children who are homeless, abused, new to this country, severely disabled. These are the children who rely on caring professionals to help. Child Welfare links the latest findings in child welfare and related research with the best practice, policy, and program development into one innovative resource equally indispensable to child welfare and associated professionals.
Child Welfare is published every other month. Two of the six issues per year are special issues on specific topics; submissions for special issues are largely by invitation of the special issue editor.
SubmissionsManuscripts submitted for review should extend knowledge in any child/family welfare or related service; on any aspect of administration, supervision, casework, group work, community organization, teaching, research, or interpretation; on any facet of interdisciplinary approaches to the field; or on issues of social policy that bear on the welfare of children and their families.
Articles should be 3,500-5,000 words in length, including tables, graphs, and references. An abstract of approximately 75 words should preface the article. All references should be documented according to the Publications Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.).
As of January 1, 2007, Child Welfare Journal will only accept electronic submissions via our online submission form.
Contact the managing editor with questions about online submissions.
Allow at least six months for the peer review process. Authors are notified of the results of the review by mail.
Publication of an article does not imply endorsement of the author's opinions; differences of opinion are welcome.
Child Welfare welcomes letters from its readers. Letters must be typed, signed, and include the writer's address and daytime telephone number. Authors of articles are offered the opportunity to rebut letters concerning their work.
