Instructions to Authors
Instructions To Authors
MANUSCRIPTS should be directed to the Editor, Alan J. Barnett, by e-mail at Alanbarnett@aol.com, or by contacting the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis, 40 West 13th Street, New York, NY 10011.
Manuscripts should be typewritten, double-spaced, including quotations and references, with at least a one-inch margin on all four sides. Send the original manuscript and two photocopies. A copy should be retained by the author. Notes and references should conform to the style of recent issues of this publication. Effort should be made to keep notes at a minimum. The reference list should include only those sources that are cited in the text. Provide an abstract of about 100 words, and a brief biographical note with the authors' academic degrees, professional titles, affiliations, and mailing addresses.
Text Documentation: References in the text of the manuscript should provide the author's name and, in parentheses, the year of the original publication of the paper or book. Example: Freud (1914) said. . . . If the author's name does not naturally appear in the sentence of the text, place in parentheses the author's name, followed by a comma and the year of the original publication. For two or more publications, use semicolons to separate the names of authors. Example: There have been many reports (Beres, 1956, 1958; Pine, 1974). Whenever material is quoted verbatim, cite a page reference in parentheses. Example: Lacan (1977) writes: "It is striking that Levi-Strauss . . . is already conquering the very terrain in which Freud situates the unconscious' (p. 73).
References: References should be typed double-spaced throughout, arranged alphabetically by author. Names of journals should be underlined and abbreviated as in the Index Medicus, or in recent issues of this publication. For Freud's works, the original date of the paper or book is given first, and the date of its appearance in the Standard Edition is given at the end of the references. Refer to recent issues of this publication for examples of style for Freud references. Detailed examples and further instructions on documentation and references may be obtained by writing to the Editor. Articles will be accepted only if they are contributed solely to The Psychoanalytic Review. The editor should be notified if the article has already appeared in a foreign journal or has been submitted elsewhere. Often a paper is accepted contingent upon revisions required by reviewers, or the retyping of references in the style of this publication. Authors are responsible for these changes as requested by the Editor. A complimentary copy of the issue in which the paper appears and a reprint order form will be sent to the author. The opinions and views of the contributors do not necessarily reflect the viewpoint of the editors or the NPAP.
