About the journal
Published quarterly, The Business Lawyer is the premier business law journal in the country, circulating to approximately 60,000 readers. It contains articles of significant interest to the business lawyer, including case law analysis, developing trends and annotated listings of recent literature.
Instructions to Authors
Submission Guidelines (including formating and citation guidelines)

Deadlines for the submission of manuscripts intended for publication in the November, February, May, and August issues are June 1, September 1, December 1, and March 1, respectively. Manuscripts should be submitted electronically via e-mail with full contact information to Linda Hayman at lhayman@skadden.com. If you must submit by mail, send a diskette containing an electronic file of the article in Word format to:

All footnotes must be placed at the end of the article as endnotes. The manuscript, including endnotes, should be double-spaced and be between 30 and 100 pages in length.

In preparing both text and endnotes, authors should consult and follow the style presented in The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (17th ed.). For questions of literary style not covered by The Bluebook, authors should consult The Chicago Manual of Style (15th ed.) by the University of Chicago Press.

All citations should be placed in the endnotes, even if the authority is mentioned in the text.

The Business Lawyer must be accorded exclusive review and priority publication rights with respect to submitted articles. It is expected that articles submitted to The Business Lawyer are not under consideration by any other publication and, if accepted, will appear only in The Business Lawyer. Therefore, it is assumed that manuscripts submitted to The Business Lawyer have not been previously published and will not be submitted to other periodicals for publication.

The American Bar Association reserves the right to grant permission to reprint any articles appearing in The Business Lawyer.

To preserve professional objectivity, it is assumed that, absent appropriate disclosure (1) authors are not involved in litigation or similar matters that would impair objective treatment of the subject and (2) authors have not received compensation of any type for the article.

Absent appropriate disclosure in connection with the manuscript submission, The Business Lawyer will rely on the author's belief that the subject matter has not been preempted.
