Administration and Policy in Mental Health and Mental Health Services Research

General Contents
The aim of Administration and Policy in Mental Health and Mental Health Services is to advance the practice, study, and process of administration in the mental health setting. This journal publishes peer-reviewed, original empirical research articles and administrative and policy notes, which are commentaries, observations, and/or opinions that are briefer and less research-oriented than articles. Manuscripts on children and adults are equally welcome. Topics for articles may include, but need not be limited to, financing mental health services, managed mental health care, delivery of services, staffing, leadership organizational relations and policy, and the like. Topics for articles may include, but need not be limited to, financing mental health services, managed mental health care, delivery of services, staffing, leadership, organizational relations and policy, and the like.

Point of View
This section consists of brief manuscripts (no more than 1500 words, not including references) that are primarily editorial in nature. The manuscript should represent a clear point of view of the author on a significant current issue. We are especially interested in publishing manuscripts on policy or administrative issues. Manuscripts that contain research data to support the point of view are preferred; however, clarity, coherence, and conciseness are paramount. The paper should not be a polemic or make ad homonym arguments. New research that should help resolve the issue should be described. Suggestions for the names of persons holding a different point of view should be provided. The manuscript should be submitted through the web page and identified as a Point of View Manuscript. In order to accelerate the publication process the manuscript will under most circumstances be reviewed by the editors and not sent for external review.

References are required for articles, but tables and figures are optional. The journal also publishes reports, which are commentaries, observations, and/or opinions that are briefer and less research−oriented than articles. For reports, references are optional.

Research ?Practice Relationships
A key element of services research is the necessity in almost all research to work with an organization that provides mental health services. The provider may be a government agency, a not for profit mental health center, or a for profit corporation. The cooperation between both parties is critical for the successful completion of the project. Yet, we know little about such relationships. There are few empirical studies and a small number of cases studies on this topic. The main purpose of this special section is to share information about how to develop and maintain such relationships. Both quantitative and qualitative manuscripts are desired. Submissions that are based on personal experience, and thus not considered research studies, may be published as notes but are subject to a 1500 word limit. We would like to publish manuscripts from the practice, administrative or research perspective. The manuscript should be submitted through the web page and identified as a Research ?Practice Relationships manuscript. In order to accelerate the publication process the brief note manuscripts will under most circumstances be reviewed by the section editors and not sent for external review.

Style
Authors should refer to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (4th edition 1994 or 5th edition 2001) as a style guide for the abstract, main body of the manuscript, tables, figures, and references.

The references should adhere strictly to the APA style. Authors are responsible for all information in a reference, since accurately prepared references help establish credibility as a careful researcher.

Tables and figures should be placed at the end of the article, one table or figure per page. Use short, descriptive titles and subheads.
Manuscript Preparation
Manuscripts must be in typewritten, double−spaced, single−sided format, no longer than 25 pages for articles and 10 pages for reports.

A cover page should include the title of the manuscript; names, degrees, job titles, and professional affiliations of the authors; date of submission; and whether the paper was presented at a meeting. Also include the address, phone number, and e−mail of the contact author.

The abstract should be no longer than 100 words.

Provide a list of 3 to 5 key words directly below the abstract. Key words should express the precise content of the manuscript, as they are used for indexing purposes. Six examples of key words follow: cost−effectiveness, depression, Medicare, NIMH, quality of life, state agencies.
Manuscript Submission
All manuscripts for this journal should be submitted through our online peer review system, Editorial Manager, at: http://www.edmgr.com/apmh/.

If an author is unable to access Editorial Manager you may e-mail manuscripts to: Corinne.b.Bickman@vanderbilt.edu.
