Submission of manuscripts
All manuscripts are reviewed initially by the Editors and only those papers that meet the scientific and editorial standards of the journal, and fit within the aims and scope of the journal, will be sent for outside review. The manuscript should be double-spaced, with wide margins, and presented in the following order: title page, abstract and
keywords, text, acknowledgements, references, tables, figure legends and figures. Pages should be numbered consecutively. The text is to be separate from tables and figures; tables should be separate from figures if they have been created in different programs. First versions may be supplied via e-mail as Word attachments, or as hard copy (provide three copies). However, all final versions are to be supplied as one full and
complete hard copy, accompanied by matching electronic files, either on disk or via e-mail as attachments.
Spelling should follow either Australian, USA or British conventions and must be consistent throughout the manuscript.
Title page, abstract and keywords: The cover page of the manuscript should include the title of the article, the authors¡¯ names, their affiliations, addresses, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail addresses; the author to whom correspondence is to be sent should be clearly identified. No mention of authors¡¯ names should be made in the body of the paper, except where appropriate in citations and references.
The title should be short (12 words maximum), informative and contain the major keywords. The second page should repeat the title and include a 100 - 150-word abstract (containing no abbreviations or references), and up to 5 keywords.
Tables and figures: Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively in separate sequences. Each figure/table should have a self-explanatory title; desired location of each figure/table should be noted in the text. Numbering of tables and figures should be in Arabic numerals (e.g., 1, 2, 3) and be consistently cited between text and legend.
All line diagrams and photographs are termed ¡®Figures¡¯. Line diagrams should be suitable for immediate black and white reproduction (i.e. not requiring redrawing). Photographs should be clear black and white images with good contrast. The maximum final size of figures will be 190 mm 116 mm, landscape or portrait. Labels are to use bold, italic and roman Helvetica fonts, with minimum capitalisation. If line diagrams are presented only as hard copy, colours and greys are not to be used. If figures are also supplied electronically, greys can be included. Electronic TIFF or EPS files are preferred at high resolution (300 dpi and above). JPEGs and GIFF files at lower resolution (below 150 dpi) are not suitable for print publishing.
Subheads should be kept concise, and the levels should be clearly differentiated.
Footnotes should be used sparingly, and should not be used for citing references.
Autobiographical note (max. 100 words): Authors are requested to supply ¨C on a separate page ¨C details including their full name, highest qualification, current position and name of their organisation.
References
Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources uses the author date system of referencing, as set out in the Chicago manual of style, 15th edn. Text citations consist of the author¡¯s name (or the title of the work if no author is indicated), the date of publication, and page citation (if appropriate): (Dowling 1999, 82). Multiple references should be shown in alphabetical order unless the authors feel the order must be otherwise to indicate, for example, the relative importance of the references.
Entries in the list of references should be alphabetised by the last name of the (first) author, or, if no author is indicated, by the first main word in the title. If several works by the same authors are cited, they should be listed in order of publication, the earliest first, with publications from the same year differentiated by designating them ¡®1999a¡¯ and ¡®1999b¡¯, and so on. Individual entries should be set out as follows.
