About the journal
 

Asia Pacific Viewpoint publishes academic research in geography and allied disciplines on the economic and social development of the Asia Pacific. Particular attention is paid to the interplay between development and the environment and to the growing interconnections between countries in the region. Coverage includes:

  • The concept of the Asia Pacific region as an economic and socio-political entity 
  • Economic development and the social and cultural impacts of growth and change 
  • The environmental consequences of agriculture, industry and service growth
  • The impacts of globalisation on the Asia Pacific and the implications of this for geographical theory and practice 
  • First-hand field work into rural, industrial, and urban developments that is relevant to Asia Pacific

Instructions to Authors
Author Guidelines

1. Articles and Notes: Articles may be submitted as Main Articles which should normally be no longer than 8000 words or as Research Notes, in which case the recommended length is 3000 words.

2. Assessment: Criteria used to assess manuscripts include: (a) whether the work addresses or explains issues of current concern in the Asia Pacific region, (b) whether it contributes significantly to the available literature and/or advances current debates, (c) whether the work is of original and sound scholarship, (d) whether the literature has been treated fairly and evenly, (e) whether the manuscript is clearly organised and has a clear, well-defined argument, and finally (f) whether the writing style is clear and readable.

3. Format: Manuscripts should be typed on one side of the paper, double-spaced, with ample margins and bear the title of the contribution, name(s) of the author(s) and the address where the work was carried out. The title and full postal address of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence must be included. An email address is essential unless impossible to provide.

4. Abstracts: Contributors should include on a separate sheet an abstract of 200 words or less. Please note that abstracts should be an informative summary of the content and conclusions of the text of the article. It should be self-contained and intelligible by itself. Please reproduce the title on this sheet, but do not include author details.

5. Keywords: The abstract should contain key words and phrases that could be used to index the article. These keywords should be listed below the abstract.

6. Original work: Submission of an article will be held to imply that it contains original work that is not currently under consideration elsewhere or published elsewhere.

7. Copyright: Authors publishing in the Journal will be asked to sign an Exclusive Licence Form. In signing the form it is assumed that authors have obtained permission to use any copyrighted or previously published material. All authors must read and agree to the conditions outlined in the form, and must sign the form or agree that the corresponding author can sign on their behalf. Articles cannot be published until a signed form has been received. Authors can download the form from http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/pdf/apv_elf.pdf

8. Figures and maps: Preparation of these is the responsibility of the author. Guidelines for diagrams, maps and figures will be posted at acceptance stage. The number and title of the figure or table should appear on their own separate line, right justified in the desired position within the text. Each figure and table itself should be on a separate page.

9. Quotations: Please use single quotes and double quotes within singles.

10. Endnotes: Please use endnotes, not footnotes.

11. References: References should be cited in the text by giving the author's name, date of publication and page(s) as in (Smith, 1986: 343). References should be listed in full at the end of the paper in the following standard form:

For books: Alexander, Y. and R.A. Friedlander (1980) Self-determination: national, regional and global dimensions. Boulder, Colorado: Westview Press.

For articles: Conner, W. (1973) The politics of ethnonationalism, Journal of International Affairs 27(1): 1-21.

For online articles: Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) (2003) Contribution of the land-based primary industries to New Zealand's economic growth. Retrieved 11 February 2004, from Website: http://www.maf.govt.nz/mafnet/publications

For chapters within books: Fisher, R. (1991) With or without treaty: Indian land claims in Western Canada, in W. Renwick (ed.), Sovereignty and indigenous rights. Wellington: Victoria University Press.

Titles of journals should not be abbreviated.

12. Refereeing: Manuscripts are subject to double- or triple-blind refereeing.

13. Rejected manuscripts: Rejected manuscripts will not be returned to authors.

14. Submission: Electronic submission of files (PDF or MS Word 97 onwards) is strongly preferred. Please note that Word 2007 is not yet compatible with journal production systems, and the journal cannot accept Microsoft Word 2007 documents until such time as a stable production version is released. Please use Word's 'Save As' option therefore to save your document as an older (.doc) file type. 15. Proofs: Proofs will be sent to authors as PDF files and they must be printed, corrected and returned as hard copy to the Production Editor within two days of receipt.

16. Offprints: A free PDF offprint and a copy of the journal will be supplied to the corresponding author.
