Instructions to Authors
Manuscripts may be submitted to the editors or managing editors. Two copies of the manuscript and abstract should be provided. In case of acceptance for publication a data file of the manuscript (RTF file or any MS-DOS/Windows word processor file, unformatted) saved to a disc needs to be handed in. Manuscripts are reviewed by the editors. To protect anonymity, only the title should appear on the manuscript. Attach a cover page with the title of the manuscript, your name and affiliation, as well as an address and telephone number. All identifying references and footnotes should appear on a seperate page. Manuscripts may be subject to prolonged review. No manuscripts should be submitted which in case of acceptance may not actually be available for publication. Unsolicited manuscripts will not be sent back. For reasons of standardisation and subordination manuscripts may be subject to nonsubstantive editing.
Articles should not exceed 85 000 characters (equivalent to 20 printed pages in the Journal) and review essays should not exceed 45 000 characters (equivalent to 10 printed pages in the Journal), this includes space tabs, references, and footnotes. If no disk is enclosed the number of characters should be noted on the manuscript.
An Abstract of the manuscript (no more than 1 200 characters) should be enclosed on a seperate page. It is requested that authors prepare an English (and, if possible, French) translation of title and abstract on a seperate page.
Footnotes should be numbered consecutively and only be used for comments, not for bibliographical references.
Emphases in text should be italic.
Tables and figures should be enclosed on seperate pages. Refer to each table and figure in numerical order in the text. References to tables and figures should be phrased in such a way that their placement may be altered freely.
Figures must be provided as seperate copies ready for reproduction. This includes a copy on paper, a data file in the format in which it was created, and a data file in a universally readable graphics formal (e.g. *.tif or *.eps).
A short biographical note should be enclosed (no more than 900 characters), containing: year of birth, akademic degrees, affiliation, some words on professional background, current projects, functions and interests, if applicable a list of major publications.
References in text and the list of references should comply with the following examples: References in text:

Otherwise: (Bourdieu 1990: 120) (Giddens 1984a: 120ff.; Weber 1956: 20-25; Durkheim 1988: 41f.) (Giddens 1984b, 1990; Parsons 1969)
