About the journal Focusing on the history of economic thought and analysis, History of Political Economy has made significant contributions to the field and remains its foremost means of communication. In addition to book reviews, each issue contains original research on the development of economic thought, the historical background behind major figures in the history of economics, the interpretation of economic theories, and the methodologies available to historians of economic theory. All subscribers to History of Political Economy receive a hardbound annual supplement as part of their subscription.
Instructions to Authors Submission guidelines for History of Political Economy
When revising your manuscript for final submission, refer to the fifteenth edition of The Chicago Manual of Style (CMS) for matters of style. If you do not have access to CMS, refer to a current issue of HOPE.
Papers should be written or typed for final submission using software designed for text, such as Word or WordPerfect. Please do not use software designed for mathematical word processing (e.g., LaTeX or Scientific WorkPlace); if you do, and your paper is accepted for submission, you will likely be asked to retype the entire paper in Word or WordPerfect. You may submit your paper by mail or by e-mail. If you submit it by mail, send three double-spaced copies in 12-point type to Craufurd D. Goodwin, Editor, HOPE, Duke University, 213 Social Science Bldg., Box 90097, Durham, NC 27708-0097. If you submit it by e-mail, send it to hope@econ.duke.edu. Either way, include a cover letter that announces the title of your paper, identifies it as a submission, and briefly describes the content.
Only original, unpublished papers will be considered. Please do not simultaneously offer your paper to another publication. Authors are expected to submit art for accepted articles in camera-ready form and are expected to sign a publication agreement as a precondition of publication.
