Instructions to Authors

Information for Authors

The International Journal of Occupational Safety and Ergonomics (JOSE), a journal edited and published by the Central Institute for Labour Protection –  National Research Institute (CIOP–PIB), is primarily devoted to original articles of significance in occupational safety and ergonomics. The interdisciplinary character of JOSE allows for articles from diverse fields to be considered for publication. Their relevance to occupational safety and ergonomics and the scientific merit are primary criteria for publishing. JOSE is a peer-reviewed journal; however, the final decision regarding acceptance, revision or rejection of manuscripts rests with the Editors.
The scope of the journal includes studies of hazardous chemical, physical, and biological agents; new technologies for collective and individual protection; criteria and requirements of occupational safety and ergonomics and quality; studies of human psychophysical abilities; propagation of information and education; and ergonomics. The broad interdisciplinary scope of the journal is integrated by the pertinence to the field of safety in the working environment. The journal also contains editorials, professional news, and book reviews. Articles based on coference presentations may be published in one issue.

Copyright Permission: Authors submitting a manuscript do so on the understanding that, if it is accepted for publication, copyright of the article, including the right to reproduce the article in all forms and media, shall be assigned exclusively to CIOP–PIB. CIOP–PIB will not refuse any reasonable request by the author for permission to reproduce any of his or her contributions to JOSE. Copies of any letters granting permission to reproduce illustrations, tables, or lengthy quoted passages should be included with the manuscript.

Manuscript Submission: Manuscripts are accepted for refereeing with the understanding that the same work has not been and will not be published nor is presently submitted elsewhere, and that all persons listed as authors have given their approval for the submission of the paper; further, that any person cited as a source of personal communications has approved such citation. Written authorization may be required at the Editor's discretion.
Responsibility for the accuracy of the material, including appropriate reference to related studies lies entirely with the authors.
Manuscripts should be e-mailed to jose@ciop.pl. They should be in MS-Word. Other software is acceptable for figures, provided they will be editable.

Manuscript Preparation: Articles should be concise and in English. Page 1 should contain the article title, author(s), affiliation(s), a short form of the title (no more than 40 characters including letters and spaces), keywords, the name and complete mailing address of the author to whom correspondence should be sent (with an e-mail address and fax number), and an abstract of no more than 150 words. All physical parameters must be cited in the International System Units (SI). Equations should be written using MS Office or MathType.
Tables and figures should be completely understandable even without reading the text. Tables must be on separate pages and not embedded in the text. Every table should have a title and each table column should have a heading. Tables should be made with the use of the Tables function in MS-Word, not with spaces or tabs or enter keys.
Every figure should be saved—without a legend—in a separate file (with the filename indicating the number of the figure). All figure legends should be typed on a separate page following the main text. Authors wishing to have colour illustrations in their publication should discuss their requirements with the Editor before submission.
References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text. For examples, see http://www.nlm.nih.gov/bsd/ uniform_requirements.html or any issue of JOSE published after 2003, e.g., http://www.ciop.pl/8441.html. Contributors should refer to the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals (http://www.icmje.org). Manuscripts that do not conform to these guidelines may be returned to the author prior to editorial evaluation.

Page Proofs: Page proofs will be supplied to the author in the form of a PDF file. They should be promptly returned (by fax or e-mail) to the Editorial Office.

Offprints: The corresponding author will receive a copy of JOSE, 10 free offprints, and a PDF file with the manuscript.
