About the journal Asian Journal of Women's Studies (AJWS), an academic journal, is published by the Asian Center for Women's Studies (ACWS) and Ewha Womans University Press. Published first in 1995 as an annual issue, since 1997 the AJWS has been put out quarterly. It is an interdisciplinary journal, publishing articles pertaining to women's issues from a feminist perspective.
The journal offers articles with a theoretical focus, country reports providing valuable information on specific subjects and countries, research notes, and book reviews containing information on recent publications on women in Asia and elsewhere.
AJWS aims to share and disseminate information and scholarly ideas about women's issues in Asia and all over the world, with the view to develop women's studies in Asia and expand the horizon of western-centered women's studies.
The journal is covered by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) products: Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), Current Contents: Social & Behavioral Sciences. It is also covered by Soft Line Information in its full text database Gender Watch of ProQuest Company and is indexed by Alternative Press Index, Iowa Guide, and Feminist Periodicals.
Instructions to Authors
|
The Asian Journal of Women’s Studies (AJWS), the first international academic journal in Women’s Studies in Korea published in English and the first social science journal in Korea included in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), is a multi-disciplinary international forum for the presentation of feminist scholarship and criticism in the fields of the humanities and the social sciences. AJWS was first published as an annual issue in 1995. Since 1997, AJWS has been circulated quarterly by the Asian Center for Women’s Studies at Ewha Womans University, Seoul, South Korea.
AJWS seeks original contributions, which include research articles, review articles, and book reviews, from individuals and collectives of different backgrounds not merely in Asia but all over the world.
From its publication of Vol. 19, AJWS has been accepting short papers for the Voices from Asian Feminist Activism, a special corner created to capture individual or collective stories, narratives, and experiences of Asian activists, NGOs, and young scholars directly engaged in local activism and grassroots empowerment and emancipation programs for women, by women, through women, and with women.
Through this corner, AJWS seeks to provide a platform for theory building based on bold realities, model stories, and compelling challenges faced by women in contemporary Asian societies; to bridge the gap between scholarship of global knowledge and local knowledge; and to enrich women’s studies perspectives by providing an interface with feminist epistemologies from different locales and contexts of Asia. Submitted papers for this corner have to be shorter than the usual articles published in this journal. The papers undergo the same screening procedure and the authors are expected observe the same guidelines set forth by AJWS.
Submitted manuscripts must be in English, typed in double space, on A4 paper. Contributors are requested to send an electronic version in Microsoft Word by e-mail as an attachment. Manuscripts submitted will not be returned to the contributor. All authors receive two copies of the journal in which their contribution appears. |

Authors’ Names and other Pertinent Information |
|
| |
In some Asian countries, family names are placed before personal names and it is our policy to observe this practice and respect our authors’ preferences. In order to indicate family names, we carry them in the upper case (see examples above) and put the complete names right after the title of the article. We would appreciate it if prospective authors could indicate clearly their family names and endorse this policy. Other pertinent information required on the first page of the article are the following: 1. a brief biographical note or CV of not more than 80 words 2. full postal and e-mail addresses 3. relevant telephone and fax numbers |

Citation in Text |
|
| |
List the author's last name and the year of publication (and the page for specific reference) within parentheses.
| - |
Direct Quotation |
| |
“Technology . . . serves the existing order” (Rothschild, 1983: 84-5). |
| - |
Authors with more than one publication in a specific year |
| |
To refer to more than publication by an author for a specific year, add a letter of the alphabet to the year of publication in the in-text citation and reference list. For example: (Park, 2009a), (Park, 2009b) and (Park, 2009c) where a, b and c refer to the order in which they are cited in your text. |
| - |
Multiple authors |
| |
If a publication has three or more authors, the in-text citation should list only the first author followed by et al. (‘and others’). For example: (Chang et al., 2006) but in the reference list, mention each author in full as follows: Chang, R., T. Andrew, & J. MacColl (2006), The Institutional Repository, Oxford: Chandos Publishing. |
| - |
Citing multiple sources |
| |
List all in-text citations together in chronological order, beginning with the most recently published source, and separate each source with a semicolon (;). If more than one work is published in the same year, order these texts alphabetically by author. (Frobisher, 2012; Barnes et al., 2009; Huy, 2009; Monk and Bosco, 2001)
|
| |
|
|
| |
Notes |
|
| |
Notes referring to the text should be used only when absolutely necessary. They should be numbered consecutively and placed at the end of the manuscript, right before the reference list.
|
Notes 1. Democratic Society Party (Demokratik Toplum Partisi—DTP) was a Kurdish nationalist political party in Turkey and considered the successor to the Democratic People’s Party (DEHAP). Currently, its name is Peace and Democracy Party (Barış ve Demokrasi Partisi-BDP). The name of the Kurdish political party changes constantly due to successive bans imposed by the state. 2. Pseudonyms are used for all interviewees.

Review Process |
|
| |
Editors make a preliminary evaluation and select appropriate reviewers based on their judgment. All contributions are then subject to reviews by readers in relevant disciplines for a double blind review. Reviewers are asked to send their evaluations, comments, and suggestions for revision to the editors. After the review by the readers, the editors make a final decision about acceptance, rejection, or revision in accordance with the recommendations of the reviewers. |
