About the journal The Asia Pacific Journal of Social Work and Development (APJSWD) is published four times a year by the Department of Social Work of the National University of Singapore, in collaboration with the Asian and Pacific Association for Social Work Education. It is an internationally refereed journal, cited in the Social Sciences Citation Index®.
Goal
The goal of the journal is to develop and disseminate social work literature that provides linkages among social research, social work education, social work practice and social development at the national as well as the cross-national levels, in the Asia-Pacific region .
Scope
The subject areas of the journal cover the following in the Asia-Pacific region:
- Ideologies, values and ethics of social work
- Approaches, methods, techniques and skills of social work
- Governance, welfare and social development
- Administration of voluntary/non-profit organizations
- Societal systems and social work intervention
- Social service sectors and social work intervention
- Social work intervention for marginalized groups
- Social work intervention in social conflict and emergency situations
- Fieldwork practicum
The journal invites the following types of original contributions related to the Asia-Pacific region:
- Theoretical/historical/empirical/methodological/epistemological analyses
- Reviews of policies, programs, legislations, organizations, and practice interventions
- News for professional associations in social work
- Reports of seminars/conferences/workshops
- Book reviews
Peer Review Statement All research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymous refereeing by two referees.

Asia Pacific Journal of Social Work and Development considers all manuscripts on the strict condition that they have been submitted only to Asia Pacific Journal of Social Work and Development that they have not been published already, nor are they under consideration for publication or in press elsewhere. Authors who fail to adhere to this condition will be charged with all costs which Asia Pacific Journal of Social Work and Development incurs and their papers will not be published. Contributions to Asia Pacific Journal of Social Work and Development must report original research and will be subjected to review by referees at the discretion of the Editorial Office.

Manuscript preparation
1. General guidelines
- Every accepted article is copy-edited. The author’s concurrence to copy-editing is assumed unless specified otherwise by the author.
- Papers are accepted only in English. British English spelling and punctuation is preferred.
- A typical article will not exceed 5,000 words, inclusive of tables/references/figure captions/footnotes/endnotes. Papers that greatly exceed this will be critically reviewed with respect to length. Authors should include a word count with their manuscript.
- The article should be typed in MS Word, font Times New Roman, size 12, double spaced, and on quarto size (A4) page set up.
- Authors should ensure the appropriateness of the title to the goals and scope of the journal.
- Abstracts of up to 100 words are required for all papers submitted.
- Each paper should have up to 5 keywords .
- Search engine optimization (SEO) is a means of making your article more visible to anyone who might be looking for it. Please consult our guidance here .
- Biographical notes on contributors are not required for this journal.
- For all manuscripts non-discriminatory language is mandatory. Sexist or racist terms should not be used.
- Authors must adhere to SI units . Units are not italicised.
- When using a word which is or is asserted to be a proprietary term or trade mark, authors must use the symbol ® or TM.

3. Figures
- It is in the author's interest to provide the highest quality figure format possible. Please be sure that all imported scanned material is scanned at the appropriate resolution: 1200 dpi for line art and 600 dpi for grayscale. No colored figures are allowed.
- Figures must be saved separate to text. Please do not embed figures in the paper file.
- Files should be saved as one of the following formats: TIFF (tagged image file format), PostScript or EPS (encapsulated PostScript), and should contain all the necessary font information and the source file of the application (e.g. CorelDraw/Mac, CorelDraw/PC).
- All figures must be numbered in the order in which they appear in the paper (e.g. Figure 1, Figure 2). In multi-part figures, each part should be labelled (e.g. Figure 1(a), Figure 1(b)).
- Figure captions must be saved separately, as part of the file containing the complete text of the paper, and numbered correspondingly.
- The filename for a graphic should be descriptive of the graphic, e.g. Figure1, Figure2a.
4. Review Procedure and Criteria
Every article that meets the preliminary requirements of the journal is given a reference number to be used in every correspondence between the Journal and the author and the Journal and the reviewer. The article is then sent for a two-way masked review by two members of the Editorial Committee. The review criteria comprise of contemporary relevance, contribution to social work knowledge and implications for social work research, education and practice in the Asia Pacific Region, conceptual clarity and logic in analysis, organisation and readability in the presentation, methodology of research articles, appropriateness of references and originality.
5. Colour
The Journal has no free colour pages within its annual page allowance. Authors of accepted papers who propose publishing figures in colour in the print version should consult Taylor & Francis at proof stage to agree a financial contribution to colour reproduction costs. Figures that appear in black-and-white in the print edition of the Journal will appear in colour in the online edition, assuming colour originals are supplied.
6. Reproduction of copyright material
As an author, you are required to secure permission to reproduce any proprietary text, illustration, table, or other material, including data, audio, video, film stills, and screenshots, and any supplementary material you propose to submit. This applies to direct reproduction as well as “derivative reproduction” (where you have created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source). The reproduction of short extracts of text, excluding poetry and song lyrics, for the purposes of criticism may be possible without formal permission on the basis that the quotation is reproduced accurately and full attribution is given.

7. Supplementary online material
Authors are welcome to submit animations, movie files, sound files or any additional information for online publication.
Manuscript submission
All submissions should be made online at the Asia-Pacific Journal of Social Work and Development ScholarOne Manuscripts site. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre. Online user guides and access to a helpdesk are available on this website.
- Authors should prepare an anonymised text with a separate title page. Manuscripts should be compiled in the following order: title page; abstract; keywords; main text; acknowledgments; appendixes (as appropriate); references; table(s) with caption(s) (on individual pages); figure caption(s) (as a list).
- The Title Page should include the title of the article, the author’s name and the author blurb, including the author’s name, title, designation, organizational affiliation, postal address, email address and telephone number. One author should be identified as the Corresponding Author.
When uploading files authors will then be able to define the manuscript as "Main document" and the separate title page file as Title Page (Not for Review)
This journal does not accept Microsoft Word 2007 documents. Please use Word's "Save As" option to save your document as an older (.doc) file type.
Copyright and authors’ rights
It is a condition of publication that authors assign copyright or license the publication rights in their articles, including abstracts, to Department of Social Work, National University of Singapore, Singapore. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the Journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors retain many rights under the Taylor & Francis rights policies, which can be found at http://journalauthors.tandf.co.uk/preparation/copyright.asp . Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources.
Exceptions are made for certain Governments’ employees whose policies require that copyright cannot be transferred to other parties. We ask that a signed statement to this effect is submitted when returning proofs for accepted papers.

As an author, you will receive free access to your article on Taylor & Francis Online. You will be given access to the My authored works section of Taylor & Francis Online, which shows you all your published articles. You can easily view, read, and download your published articles from there. In addition, if someone has cited your article, you will be able to see this information.
