About the journal

Psychoanalytic Psychology serves as a resource for original contributions that reflect and broaden the interaction between psychoanalysis and psychology. In addition to addresses and phone numbers, authors should supply fax numbers and e-mail addresses for potential use by the editorial office, and later by the production office. Authors should keep a copy of the manuscript to guard against loss.
Manuscript preparation Prepare your manuscript with a word processor. Authors should prepare manuscripts according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.). Manuscripts may be copyedited for bias-free language (see chap. 2 of the Publication Manual). Formatting instructions (all copy must be double-spaced) and instructions on the preparation of tables, figures, references, metrics, and abstracts appear in the Manual. See APA's Checklist for Manuscript Submission. The author's name, complete mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail address should be typed on a separate title page.
Abstract and keywords All manuscripts must include an abstract containing a maximum of 180 words typed on a separate page. After the abstract, please supply up to five keywords or brief phrases.
Masked review This journal has adopted a policy of masked review for all submissions. The cover letter should include all authors' names and institutional affiliations. The first page of text should omit this information but should include the title of the manuscript and the date it is submitted. Every effort should be made to see that the manuscript itself contains no clues to the authors' identity.
Figures Graphics files are welcome if supplied as Tiff, EPS, or PowerPoint. High-quality printouts or glossies are needed for all figures. The minimum line weight for line art is 0.5 point for optimal printing. Original color figures can be printed in color at the editor's and publisher's discretion provided the author agrees to pay $255 for one figure, $425 for two figures, $575 for three figures, $675 for four figures, and $55 for each additional figure.
References References should be listed in alphabetical order. Each listed reference should be cited in text, and each text citation should be listed in the References. Basic formats are as follows:
Corbett, K. (1993). The mystery of homosexuality. Psychoanalytic Psychology, 10, 345¨C357.
Greenson, R. R. (1967). The technique and practice of psychoanalysis (Vol. 1). New York: International Universities Press.
Freud, S. (1961). The ego and the id. In J. Strachey (Ed. & Trans.), The standard edition of the complete psychological works of Sigmund Freud (Vol. 9, pp. 3¨C66). London: Hogarth Press. (Original work published 1923)
Cover letter The cover letter should include a statement that the findings reported in the manuscript have not been previously published and that the manuscript is not being simultaneously submitted elsewhere. The cover letter should also indicate that original research procedures were consistent with the principles of research ethics, published by the American Psychological Association, except as may be detailed in the manuscript. A copy of the APA Ethical Principles may be obtained from the APA Ethics Office web site or by writing the APA Ethics Office, 750 First Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002-4242.
APA requires authors to reveal any possible conflict of interest in the conduct and reporting of research (e.g., financial interests in a test procedure, funding by pharmaceutical companies for drug research).
Permissions Authors are required to obtain and provide to the editor on final acceptance all necessary permissions to reproduce in print and electronic form any copyrighted work, including, for example, test materials (or portions thereof) and photographs of people.
Contributors are responsible for all statements made in their work and for obtaining permission from copyright owners if they use an illustration or lengthy quote (more than 500 words) published elsewhere. Contributors should write to both publisher and author of such material, requesting nonexclusive world rights in all languages for use in the article and all future editions of it.
Publication policies APA policy prohibits an author from submitting the same manuscript for concurrent consideration by two or more publications. APA's policy regarding posting articles on the Internet may be found at Posting Articles on the Internet. In addition, it is a violation of APA Ethical Principles to publish "as original data, data that have been previously published" (Standard 8.13). Because this journal is a primary journal that publishes original material only, APA policy prohibits as well publication of any manuscript that has already been published in whole or substantial part elsewhere. Authors have an obligation to consult the editor concerning prior publication of any data upon which their article depends.
In addition, APA Ethical Principles specify that "after research results are published, psychologists do not withhold the data on which their conclusions are based from other competent professionals who seek to verify the substantive claims through reanalysis and who intend to use such data only for that purpose, provided that the confidentiality of the participants can be protected and unless legal rights concerning proprietary data preclude their release" (Standard 8.14). APA expects authors submitting to this journal to adhere to these standards. Specifically, authors of manuscripts submitted to APA journals are expected to have their data available throughout the editorial review process and for at least 5 years after the date of publication.
Authors will be required to state in writing that they have complied with APA ethical standards in the treatment of their sample, human or animal, or to describe the details of treatment.
Authors of accepted manuscripts will be required to transfer copyright to APA.
Manuscripts will be evaluated on the basis of both style and content. Authors must take responsibility for clarity, conciseness, and felicity of expression.
Preparing files for production After a manuscript has been accepted for publication, its author is asked to provide an electronic file containing the manuscript. Authors read copyedited manuscripts to correct errors and answer editors' queries.
Please follow the guidelines for file formats and naming provided at Preparing Your Accepted Manuscript for Production. If your manuscript was mask reviewed, please ensure that the final version for production includes a byline and full author note for typesetting.
