About the journal
Armed Forces & Society: an interdisciplinary journal publishing articles on military institutions, civil-military relations, arms control and peacemaking, and conflict management. The journal is international in scope with a focus on historical, comparative, and interdisciplinary discourse. The editors and contributors include political scientists, sociologists, historians, psychologists, scholars, and economists, as well as specialists in military organization and strategy, arms control, and peacekeeping.

Instructions to Authors
Manuscript Submission Guidelines: Articles submitted to Armed Forces & Society should be no longer than 25 double-spaced typewritten pages, including double-spaced endnotes. They should be accompanied by a cover letter giving the paper's title and the corresponding author's name, mailing address, and telephone number. The paper should include
an abstract of 100-150 words; 4-5 keywords; and a brief statement summarizing the author's present affiliations, publishing career, and research interests. Endnotes should be typed, double-spaced, beginning on a separate page following the text and should be numbered consecutively. Endnote style follows the Chicago Manual of Style (15th ed.).
Send 2 copies to Professor Patricia M. Shields, Editor, Armed Forces & Society, Department of Political Science, Texas State University, San Marcos, TX 78666. Include a disk with an electronic copy of the abstract and paper (MS Word 6.0 or higher). Double space all sections, including endnotes and tables. Use standard margins and number pages consecutively. Do not (1) indicate the author's name on manuscript pages or (2) staple the pages. Send photocopies only of figures; high-resolution copies will be required upon acceptance. Notify the editorial office promptly of any address changes.
