This journal is a quarterly in the interdisciplinary field of regional and urban studies. Its purpose is to promote high quality scholarship on the important theoretical and empirical issues in regional science. The journal publishes papers which make a new or substantial contribution to the body of knowledge in which the spatial dimension plays a fundamental role, such as regional economics, resource management, location theory, urban and regional planning, transportation and communication, human geography, population distribution and environmental quality.

Instructions to Authors
| Publication Policies |
 | The author(s) transfer(s) the copyright to his/their article to Springer-Verlag effective if and when the article is accepted for publication. The copyright covers the exclusive and unlimited rights to reproduce and distribute the article in any form of reproduction (printing, electronic media or any other form); it also covers translation rights for all languages and countries. For U.S. authors the copyright is transferred to the extent transferable.
 Manuscripts must be accompanied by the Copyright Transfer Statement (the form is regularly published in this journal).
 Submitted manuscripts should make a new or substantial contribution to the body of knowledge. Policyoriented articles should meet the test of feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed measures. Commissioned articles should focus on technical insights or important lessons to be learnt from a specific body of research.
 Please submit one original manuscript typed on one side of the sheet only plus two copies photocopied on both sides to keep postage charges to a minimum. In order to reduce mailing costs, rejected manuscripts will not normally be returned. Simultaneous submission to other journals is not permissible, nor should the paper have been accepted or published elsewhere.

| Manuscript Preparation |
 | Manuscripts should be typewritten on one side of the paper only, doublespaced with wide margins. All pages should be numbered consecutively. Titles and subtitles should be short. References, tables and legends for figures should be typed on separate pages.
 First page
 The first page of the manuscript should contain:



|
(i) the title (with any footnote to the title);
|


|
(ii) the name(s), institutional affiliation(s) with complete postal addresses of all author(s);
|


|
(iii) an abstract of not more than 15 lines;
|


|
(iv) 3¨C4 JEL classifications. To facilitate communication between the authors, editors and publisher, the author should furnish a fax number and/or an e-mail address on the title page of the manuscript.
|  Acknowledgements



|
Acknowledgements and information on grants received can be given in a first footnote, which should not be included in the consecutive numbering of footnotes.
|  Formulae



|
Important formulae (displayed) should be numbered consecutively throughout the manuscript as (1), (2), etc. on the right-hand side of the page.
|  Footnotes



|
Footnotes should be kept to a minimum and be numbered consecutively throughout the text with superscript arabic numerals.
|  References
 The list of references should include only publications cited in the text. The references should be cited in alphabetical order under the first author¡¯s name. Citations in the text should be by author and year.
 Journal papers:

names and initials of all authors;
|


|
year of publication in parentheses;
|


|
full title of cited paper;
|


|
full title of journal;
|


|
arabic volume numbers;
|


|
first and last page numbers, e.g.:

 Figures

Figures are to be numbered consecutively and should be submitted separately. For line drawings, good-quality glossy prints in the desired final size are preferred. Computer printouts are acceptable, provided they are legible and reproducible.
|  Tables



|
Tables are to be numbered separately from the illustrations. Each table should have a short title.

| Page Proofs |
 | Page proofs will be sent to the author(s). Corrections should be limited to printer¡¯s errors, since the costs involved in making any other alterations are substantial and may be charged to the author. When returning proofs, the author(s) must agree to transfer copyright of the manuscript to the publisher. One complimentary copy is supplied for each author.
 |

| Offprints |
 | Twenty- five (25) offprints of each contribution are provided free of charge. Orders for additional offprints can be placed by returning the order form with the corrected proofs. When the author orders additional offprints, he is entitled to receive a pdf file of his article for his own personal use.
 |

| Manuscripts in Electronic Form |
 | Submission of data is encouraged. Please do not transmit any such data to the publisher until your manuscript has been reviewed and accepted for publication.
