Infection and Drug Resistanceis an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal that focuses on the optimal treatment of infection (bacterial, fungal and viral) and the development and institution ofpreventativestrategies to minimize the development and spread of resistance.
The journal is specifically concerned with the epidemiology of antibiotic resistance and the mechanisms of resistance development and diffusion in both hospitals and the community. In particular, research and clinical development of novel mechanism of action anti-infectives and the optimal use of existing therapies will be highlighted. Other areas of coverage include diagnostic and early detection of infection, proteomic and genomic studies to characterize surface proteins in resistant organisms, and educational and infection control strategies. With increased mortality, morbidity and healthcare costs associated with developing resistance, research, clinical studies and programs designed to improve outcomes and patient adherence and satisfaction will be given priority.
The journal is characterized by the rapid reporting of reviews, guidelines, original research and clinical studies in all areas of infection and drug resistance.

Professor Anthony is a clinical professor with the Department of Internal Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Since completing his PhD at Pacific Western University, Professor Antony has been the recipient of multiple teaching honours, including the 1994 Resident Teacher of the Year Award, presented by the ECU School of Medicine, the Teaching Award of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 1998 and 1999, and the ACP-ASIM Community Based Internal Medicine Teaching Award in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
Professor Antony is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, as well as the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the Royal Society of Medicine. He is heavily involved in HIV and AIDS education, and acts as a scientific reviewer for several journals, including his activities as the associate editor ofEl Paso Physiciansince 2001.
Professor Antony also acts as an infectious disease consultant at the Center for Infectious Diseases and Travel Medicine, in El Paso, Texas.

Dr. Sahil Khanna is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. He completed Medical School at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi; followed by Post Doctoral Research at University of California San Diego, CA; residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN before joining the Faculty. He also completed Masters in Clinical and Translational Sciences during his fellowship. His research and clinical interests include Epidemiology, Outcomes and Emerging Therapeutics for Clostridium difficile infection, an arena in which he has had numerous publications and presentations. He is directing the C. difficile Clinic, Fecal Microbiota Transplantation program and C. difficile related Clinical Trials at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. He serves on the editorial board of several journals and has won numerous awards including the Miles and Shirley Fiterman Award, Mayo Brothers Distinguished Fellowship Award, Donald C. Balfour Mayo Clinic Alumni Association Research Award and Hartz Foundation Young Investigators' Scholarship and the Most Distinguished Resident Physician Award from the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin. He has been listed several times in Marquis Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who in America.

Dr Nulens is a clinical microbiologist at the General Hospital Sint-Jan in Bruges, Belgium since 2005.
He finished his studies of medicine at the Free University of Brussels 1996. Between 2001 to 2004 and 2004 to 2005 he worked as a clinical microbiologist in the University Medical Centre Nijmegen and Maastricht University Medical Centre respectively in The Netherlands.
During his PhD thesis research at the University of Maastricht, The Netherlands, he showed the genetic diversity of methicillin susceptible and methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus in the Meus-Rhine region, where an intensive patient transfer and care between Belgian, Dutch and German hospitals exist. He calculated the hospital costs to contain and treat MRSA blood stream infections in the Maastricht University Medical Centre.
He is a member of the Superior Health Council, a division of the Federal Public Service of Belgium, where he deals with containment guidelines of multi-resistant organisms guidelines in hospitals.

Joachim Wink studied biology at Frankfurt University and obtained his PhD at the institute of molecular biology in 1985 on “Modifications of the protein pattern of Bacillus subtilis during sporulation”. In the same year he moved to the Höchst AG where he started his business career in the core research functions, department of biotechnology as head of a laboratory. From 1992 to 2012 he continued his worked in the pharmaceutical research of the Höchst AG and its following companies Aventis and Sanofi. During these more than 27 years in the industry he was responsible for the microbial strain collection in natural product research and was specialized in isolation, cultivation and characterization of Actinobacteria and Myxobacteria. In 2004 he completed his habilitation dissertation at the Technische Universität Braunschweig on “The taxonomy of secondary metabolite producing Actinomycetes” in cooperation with the DSMZ. Since 2012 Joachim Wink is doing his research at the HZI and in 2013 he became head of the new work group microbial strain collection, he also holds lectures at the TU Braunschweig in biology of metabolite producing microorganisms.
