Author Guidelines
The Kuwait Journal of Science is an international journal which publishes papers in all fields of natural, life and applied sciences. The Journal publishes papers reporting original contributions to scientific knowledge. While submitting the manuscript, the Author (s) should clearly indicate his/her field of specialization. Research articles in a language other than English are NOT entertained. Correction of English language is not the responsibility of Editorial board of KJS. The non-English speakers are asked to get their manuscripts checked by an English speaking colleague or professional editors.
Online submission of research paper
1- Authors are required to fill up the entire authors name when they fill up the metadata to submit the paper.
2- It is important to mention the correct corresponding author with his/her email and full corresponding address.
3- References should be listed in the “References” section when the authors complete the submission process
4- Copyright form should be downloaded (Click here to download the Copyright Form), fill it up and get it signed by all the authors and upload it as a supplementary file within two weeks of submission of the paper.
5- Manuscript file size should be less than 2 MB and if the file size exceeds this size, compress the file or split the document by submitting the figures separately.
Communications
1- Manuscripts as pdf or word (LaTeX version is compulsory for Mathematic papers). Submitted file at the website: http://journals.ku.edu.kw/kjs/ and e-mail communication should be directed to kjs@ku.edu.kw
2- For speedy communication the authors are encouraged to supply E-mail addresses, fax and telephone numbers along with the submission of manuscripts.
3- If there is any change in the address of an author, KJS must be immediately informed.
4- Late change in address must appear as a numbered footnote.
General
1- Manuscripts should be in Standard English; American spelling versions are accepted but consistency must be maintained. An abstract in Arabic is required. (For Non-Arabs translation will be provided by KJS office).
2- Papers accepted for publication will be limited to a maximum printed length of 15 pages (20 A4 sheets, double space typed).
3- Concise, well thought-out and prepared papers adhering to the style of the Journal are likely to be published sooner than those in need of extensive editing and revision. The Journal will enforce its style on papers accepted for publication. It is the responsibility of authors to ensure adherence to guidelines outlined in these "Instructions to Authors".
4- The authors should certify that the paper sent is original and no part of it has been published before or being considered for the publication in any other journal.
Preparation of Manuscript
1- The main text should be paginated, starting with the Title/Abstract page and ending with the Reference page(s). Page numbers should appear in the middle on top of the pages. Figure and Table captions should be sent on separate pages.
2- Manuscripts must be typewritten with double spacing and wide margins (25mm) at all sides. A font type of "Times New Roman" and size of "12 points" is required. The document format should be in MS word/PDF/TEX.
3- Words to be printed in italics should appear as italics in the manuscript. Genus and species must be italicized.
Title/Abstract/Keywords
1- The title page should contain the title of the paper, the names(s) of the author(s), their institutional address(es) and their email addresses.
2- Title should be short, specific and informative. A running title of less than 75 characters is encouraged.
3- The abstract (not exceeding 300 words) should state the objectives achieved and give main findings of the work described in the paper. It should be independent of the text and should not contain abbreviations or bibliographical references.
4- Five Key words relating to the concerned subject should be given in alphabetical order separated by semicolons.
5- E-mail and contact numbers of all Authors should be present in the first page of the manuscript.
Text Headings
1- The main text should follow the abstract and conform with the current style of the Journal. The following hierarchy for headings should be used: AREA (bold capitals, centered) Sector (bold, capital first letter, centered) Zone (italics, capital first letter, un-indented) Block (italics, capital first letter, indented) No numbers or Roman numerals should be used in these headings.
Figures
1- All illustrations are called Figures and should be referred to as Figure at the start of the sentence. Figure parts are referenced as Fig. 1(a).
2- Figures should be numbered serially and should appear in text in order.
3- Figure captions should appear on a separate sheet.
4- All composite figures should be mounted together and the parts labeled (a), (b), (c), etc. Page size montages of photographs count as a single figure. Avoid mixed montages of photographs and line drawings.
5- Original diagrams should be prepared in high quality digital image PS or EPS. All figures and tables must show error bars (where applicable) with 300-400-dpm resolution.
6- The maximum printed size is 170 x 250 mm. Letters and numerals should not be less than 1mm after reduction. Regular Times or Helvetica typeface with a final (printed) size of 6pt to 8pt type, and equivalent line weights, are preferred. (If drawn for intended 50% reduction, use 12pt to 16pt fonts). A small range of print size (less than twofold) is recommended.
7- In the final version of the manuscript, indicate the desired location of Figures and Tables.
Photographs
1- Clear digital photographs (high resolution) are accepted in TIF or GIF formats.
2- Field photographs must contain a scale.
Maps
1- Maps and field sketches must include a metric bar scale. Regional maps must include a North arrow and at least 2 latitude and 2 longitude numbers on each of its respective sides; National Grid numbers may also be used. Map keys should be given on map or figure, not as numbered boxes.
Tables
1- References to tables in text should appear as Table 2.
2- Each table should have a brief descriptive title set above the body of the table.
3- Submit each table on a separate page. Assign serial numbers to Tables which correspond to the sequence of their appearance in the text.
Acknowledgements
1- Acknowledgments should follow the main text with heading ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS.
2- Personal acknowledgements should precede those of institutions or agencies only (not referees)
3- The funding agency which supported the work, must be clearly mentioned
References
Citations must be given in Harvard style in the text (Salama et al., 1991; Misfir, 1988), or Salama et al. (1991) or according to Misfir (1988) and Kepper & Astry (1993)., If two or more works by different authors or authoring bodies are cited at one point in the text, use a semi-colon to separate them: (Larsen 2000; Malinowski 1999). "Papers in preparation" or "submitted" or "under review" are NOT VALID references. Also "Work in preparation", "unpublished abstracts", and "personal communications or oral communications" should not be cited in text or in the citation list. Obscure citations must carry DOI reference.
1- Personal communications' should be authorized in writing. Unpublished data should be cited as (unpublished data).
2- Authors are responsible for accuracy of references.
3- References must be on separate page at the end of the text.
4- An alphabetical list of all literature cited in the text should follow the text, headed by REFERENCES, and double spaces in Times New Roman font size 12. Names of the periodicals should be given in full.
5- References should be highlighted in the text part.

Appendices
1- Appendices are encouraged for specific details on methodology, mathematics, or voluminous data.
Units, Abbreviations, Acronyms
1- Units should be metric, generally SI, and expressed in standard abbreviated form.
2- Acronyms may be acceptable, but must be defined at first usage.
Mathematics
1- Authors must provide instructions on how symbols and equations should be set.
2- Equations should be numbered sequentially in the right-hand side and in parenthesis. They should be referred to in the text as Equation 4.
Revision of Manuscripts
1- Manuscripts must be returned to the Editor-in-Chief within 1 month of the author’s receipt of referees' reports. After one month, the paper will be considered withdrawn.
2- Revised Manuscript must be professionally checked and edited by a Language Editor / Copy editor and it should be formatted strictly as per the Journal style. Figures and tables along with their captions must be placed next to the relevant text in the article. The acceptance letter will be provided only upon the receipt of the final edited MS.
Page Proofs
1- One set of proofs will be emailed to the corresponding author to be checked for typesetting and editing. Corrections or changes must not be made which constitute departure from the article in its accepted form.
2- Check proofs thoroughly and return them within 48 hrs to the publisher from date of receipt.
Electronic Text
1- The final version to be submitted in PDF/TEX format.
2- Text from most word processing systems is acceptable. The Journal, however, encourages the use of Microsoft Office 2007 or latest version in the WINDOWS format.
3- Illustrations and tables are accepted in any of the common formats used by popular drawing programs for the PC and MAC environments generated by Adobe Photoshop.
Reprints
1- Fifty copies of each published paper will be supplied free of charge to the principal or corresponding author. Additional copies may be requested for cost using the order form provided with the proofs.
2- All manuscripts become property of the Journal and are not returned to authors, even if a manuscript is rejected. Original manuscripts and illustrations are discarded two months after publication, unless a prior arrangement is made with the Editor-in-Chief.
Covering Letter
1- Author should declare “No conflict of Interest” between the Authors and the institute where the work has been carried out. The same has to be accepted and declared in the covering letter during the submission process.
2- Corresponding Author must declare that all Authors have contributed equally in the writing and experimental part of the manuscript. . Contribution by each author must be spelled out. This declaration must be made in the cover letter to the Editor-in-Chief.
3- In the cover letter, the authors must clearly state the importance of their work and why it should be published in KJS.
4- Author has to provide us with list of 5 potential reviewers with their Name, Position, e-mail address, Institution and phone number. These reviewers should not be from the same country of the Authors. The KJS has no obligation to contact these reviewers.
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- I understand that, this manuscript can't be withdrawn or submitted to another Journal once it is reviewed. If So, KJS has the right to take the proper action according to its bylaws. For more details, Please click here

- The submission file is in Microsoft Word, PDF, or LaTeX document file format.
