Aims & scope Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research is an open access, peer-reviewed online journal that encompasses all aspects of clinical and basic research studies related to musculoskeletal issues. Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research (JOSR) provides the platform for exchange of new clinical and scientific information in the most precise and expeditious way to achieve timely dissemination of information and cross-fertilization of ideas. Orthopaedic research is conducted essentially at clinical and basic science levels. With the advancement of new technologies and the increasing expectation and demand from doctors and patients, we are witnessing an enormous growth in clinical orthopaedic research, particularly in the fields of traumatology, spinal surgery, joint replacement, sports medicine, musculoskeletal tumour management, hand microsurgery, foot and ankle surgery, paediatric orthopaedic, and orthopaedic rehabilitation. The involvement of basic science ranges from molecular, cellular, structural and functional perspectives to tissue engineering, gait analysis, automation and robotic surgery. Implant and biomaterial designs are new disciplines that complement clinical applications. Multidisciplinary research with collaboration amongst clinicians and scientists from different disciplines will be the trend in the coming decades. Please contact us if further information is needed. Article-processing charges Open access publishing is not without costs. Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research therefore levies an article-processing charge of £1475/$2410/€1775 for each article accepted for publication. We routinely waive charges for authors from low-income countries. Generally, if the submitting author's institution is a Member the cost of the article-processing charge is covered by the membership, and no further charge is payable. In the case of authors whose institutions are Supporter Members, however, a discounted article-processing charge is payable by the author. For further details, see our article-processing charge page. A limited number of waivers for article-processing charges are also available at the editors' discretion, and authors wishing to apply for these waivers should contact the editors. Publication and peer review process Content overview Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research considers the following types of articles: Research: reports of data from original research. Review: comprehensive, authoritative, descriptions of any subject within the journal's scope. Opinion leaders that have been invited by the Editorial Board usually write these articles. They have an educational aim and are 2000-3000 words. Methodology: short, single accounts of novel scientific work that describes innovative techniques of data collection or analysis. They provide a mechanism for publishing scholarly material where developing a full research article is unnecessary or inappropriate. Study protocol: describes proposed or ongoing research, providing a detailed account of the hypothesis, rationale, and methodology of the study. Technical note: presents a new experimental or computational method, test or procedure. Peer-review policies Submitted manuscripts that are deemed suitable for peer review will be assigned to three reviewers. The reviewers will have up to three weeks to review the submitted article. After the receipt of the recommendation from the reviewers, the Editors-in-Chief will decide on whether to accept or reject the manuscript. Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research is supported by an expert Editorial Board. Authors will be able to check the progress of their manuscript through the submission system at any time by logging into My Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, a personalized section of the site. Supplements Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research will consider supplements based on proceedings (full articles or meeting abstracts), reviews or research. All articles submitted for publication in supplements are subject to peer review. Published supplements are fully searchable and freely accessible online and can also be produced in print. Articles are published with their final citation immediately upon acceptance in a provisional PDF form. The article will subsequently be published in both fully browsable web form, and as a formatted PDF; the article will then be available through Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research and BioMed Central.
