Aims & Scope
The Journal of Engineering Mechanics covers activity and development in the field of applied mechanics as it relates to civil engineering. Research on bioengineering, computational mechanics, computer-aided engineering, dynamics of structures, elasticity, experimental analysis and instrumentation, fluid mechanics, flow of granular media, inelastic behavior of solids and structures, probabilistic methods, properties of materials, fracture mechanics, stability of structural elements and systems, and turbulence is reported. Typically, published papers describe the development and implementation of new analytical models, innovative numerical methods, and novel experimental methods and results.
Instructions to Authors
ASCE publishes journal articles that demonstrate excellence in the quality of technical information and the clarity of expression. ASCE journal authors are expected to present their ideas in a manner that is logical, accurate, and as concise as possible. It is important that technical terms, notations, and symbols are defined and used with reasonable consistency.
This section of resources for ASCE journal authors presents a "virtual" author's guide, with information about submitting an article, the review process, preparing a final manuscript, and general ASCE policies. Information for journal editors and journal article reviewers is available elsewhere on this Web site. If you have questions about these or other issues, please consult an ASCE journals staff contact.
Submitting a Journal Article
ASCE encourages the submission of scholarly and practice-oriented articles to its journals. Before you submit an article, please review the scope statements for ASCE's journals on the journals home pages, to ensure that you are submitting your work to the journal that is best suited for it. Then, consult our resources for authors, especially the sections about types of journal content, length of journal submissions, and manuscript preparation.
Online Submission System
The Journal of Engineering Mechanics accepts submissions online through Editorial Manager. With Editorial Manager, authors can submit manuscripts to the journal via the Internet and have their manuscripts reviewed online. Reviewers can review manuscripts and submit their comments online.
Access Editorial Manager to register as a new user, view the author's tutorial, review submission requirements, log onto the system, and submit papers, technical notes, discussions, and closures.
Online submission of all new manuscripts to the Journal of Engineering Mechanics is required. Manuscripts that arrive via e-mail or postal mail will not be processed. The authors will be contacted and asked to submit their manuscripts online instead.
Papers under review, accepted for publication, or published elsewhere should not be submitted and will not be considered.
