About the journal

High Temperatures - High Pressures publishes original research papers related to thermophysical properties of matter, including thermal and transport properties. Papers dealing with the gaseous, liquid or solid phase are equally welcome. Special emphasis is put on matter under extreme conditions such as high temperatures and high pressures, on properties of micro- or nano-structured materials, and on non-linear properties related to high rates of energy transport. Both theoretical and experimental work will be considered for publication. Reports on measurements of thermophysical property data as well as on the use of these data for applications form an integral part of the journal’s scope. Papers on novel experimental techniques and critical compilations and analyses of existing data may also be submitted.
Aims and Scope
High Temperatures-High Pressures is an international refereed journal (ISSN 0018-1544) devoted to the experimental and theoretical study of the thermophysical properties of matter. Beginning with Volume 30, Issue 1 (1998), the journal has been added to the ISI Materials Science Citation Index, Citation Index Expanded, and Research Alert.
High Temperatures-High Pressures reflects the common interests of physicists, engineers, material scientists, chemists, and other scientists. It provides a focus for developing and disseminating knowledge of thermophysics research, applications, equipment, and techniques. The journal covers the thermophysical properties of gases, liquids, and solids, at all temperatures and under all physical conditions. Additionally, authoritative reviews of advances in thermophysics research, new technology applications, scientific meeting reports, and book reviews are regular features of the journal.

Instructions to Authors
In order to ensure timely handling of manuscripts, contributors are encouraged to read these instructions carefully before preparing a manuscript for submission, and to check the manuscript for compliance with these notes before submitting it for publication.
Submission of Manuscripts: Please submit an electronic copy of your manuscript to:
Ivan Egry Institut für Theoretische Physik RWTH Aachen 52056 Aachen, Germany e-mail website
Please include complete postal addresses, e-mail addresses, and telephone and fax numbers for all authors of the article.
The preferred order of presentation is Title Page, Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgments, References, tables, figure legends, and figures.
Submission of a paper to High Temperatures-High Pressures implies that it has not been published or submitted elsewhere. It will also be assumed all authors have obtained all necessary permissions for the paper to include items such as quotations, figures, tables, results of government-sponsored research, and that authors follow strict ethical rules as defined, e.g. by the American Physical Society (http://www.aps.org/policy/statements/02_2.cfm). Upon acceptance, the publisher acquires the copyright for unlimited world-wide distribution including an electronic format.
Guidelines for the Submission of Text All submissions should be made as Microsoft Word documents or LATEX. Style files can be downloaded from the journal’s homepage. The manuscript and references should be doublespaced, presented in an easily readable, standard font and size (such as 10 or 12 pt. Times New Roman or Arial). All pages should be numbered. All manuscripts must be submitted in English; American or British spelling may be used. The manuscript must be accompanied by a cover letter, containing e-mail address, fax and phone number of the corresponding author. An abbreviated title of a maximum of 35 characters should be provided as well.
Title: The title of the paper should be typed boldface; main words should not be capitalised. The title should clearly indicate the scope and findings of the paper and provide an accurate indication of the contents when searched by computerized methods.
Authors: The names of authors should be given in full, capitalised (FIRST NAME, INITIAL(S), LAST NAME). Departments, institutions and addresses including postal code and country for each author should be given on separate lines after the list of authors and referenced by arabic numerals as superscripts.
The author to whom correspondence should be directed should be indicated by a star superscript *; for the corresponding author, e-mail address should be provided as footnote.
Abstract: Manuscripts should include an abstract of 150-250 words summarizing the significant findings.
Keywords: Six to twelve keywords or phrases should be supplied to aid in indexing the article.
Text headings: Headings should be set flush left and the text should begin on the next line. There is no dot after the heading number. For example:
first-level: 1 HEADING (bold, all caps.) second-level: 1.1 Heading (bold, upper case and lower case characters) third level: 1.1.1 Heading: (underscore, upper case and lower case characters)
Tables: Tables should be numbered consecutively and include a clear descriptive caption at the top.
EXAMPLE: Table 1. Table caption. Table footnotes should be given a footnote symbol as explained in the Footnotes section, proceeding by row rather than by column order.
Table positions should be indicated in the text, tables and table captions should be displayed on separate pages, after the references
Units: SI units are to be used throughout, including K for temperature.
Nomenclature: A section on nomenclature is optional; it may be added after the text, preceding the references and should contain, in tabular form, the symbol, its meaning, and its SI units.
References: References should be identified in the text by Arabic numerals [in square brackets] and should be numbered consecutively. The full list of references should be collected and typed at the end of the paper in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text. The surnames of the authors followed by initials should be given. Cite all authors on each paper; “et al.” is not sufficient. The titles of journals should be abbreviated according to the ISI journal title abbreviations list. EXAMPLES: JOURNAL ARTICLE: Brooks RF, Day AP, Andon RJL, Chapman LA, Mills KC, Quested PN. High Temp - High Press. 33 (2001) 72.
BOOK: Iida T, Guthrie RIL. The Physical Properties of Liquid Metals. Oxford: Clarendon Press; 1993.
THESIS: Student A. PhD thesis. University of Mytown, Mytown; 2007
STAND-ALONE WEB DOCUMENT: Last name, first initial. (year). List of authoring systems. Retrieved date, from http://www.website.com/.
Mention of figures and tables within text: When referring to figures, tables and other elements within the text, always call the element by its full name (for example: “See Table 1”, “Figure 1 illustrates...”, “Refer to Scheme 1”). Do not use ambiguous phraseologies (for example: “1 illustrates...”) that do not clearly denote the element being referred to.
Footnotes: Authors are encouraged to minimize the use of footnotes#. Information concerning grant support of research should appear in a separate Acknowledgments section at the end of the paper, not in a footnote. Acknowledgments of the assistance of colleagues or similar notes of appreciation also properly belong in an Acknowledgments section, not in footnotes. Footnotes should be indicated in the text by the following symbols: *(asterisk or star), † (dagger), ‡ (double dagger), ¶ (paragraph mark), § (section mark), || (parallels), # (number sign). Do not use numerals for footnote call-outs, as they may be mistaken for bibliographical reference call-outs or exponents. Type each footnote at the bottom of the typescript page on which its text call-out appears. Footnotes within a table should be indicated by the same symbols listed above. Reinitialize symbol sequence within tables. Type footnotes to a table directly beneath the table.
Specifications for the Submission of Figures and Artwork Figures must be provided as separate electronic files. Electronic images supplied separately should be saved as PDF, EPS, TIFF or BMP files. JPEG format should not be used for line drawings. It is very important that all electronic images be provided as high-resolution files. Photographic images (black & white or color) should be saved at a resolution of 300 dpi minimum. Line art should be saved between 600 and 1200 dpi. Full captions and photo credits (if necessary) should be provided for each photo and figure. All images should be clearly labeled as to figure number. Top should be indicated if it is not immediately apparent. The position of each figure should be indicated in the text. Figure captions and figures should be displayed on separate pages, at the end of the manuscript. EXAMPLE: Figure 1. Figure caption.
Whenever the use of color is critical for understanding the paper, the journal will publish one colour page in the back of the issue without charge to the authors. Additional colour pages are charged to the authors. Reprints in color will carry a surcharge. Please write to the Editor for details.
For artwork originally published elsewhere, it is the author’s responsibility to obtain written permission to reprint.
