About the journal

The Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology is an international, peer-reviewed, Open Access journal. It provides a unique platform for rapid publication without publication charges. At the same time, all articles are freely accessible to readers worldwide. The Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology is published and completely funded by the Beilstein-Institut, an independent non-profit foundation. Editor-in-Chief is Professor Thomas Schimmel, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.


Instructions to Authors

The Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology is an international, peer-reviewed, Open Access journal. It provides a unique platform for rapid publication without publication charges. At the same time, all articles are freely accessible to readers worldwide. The Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology is published and completely funded by the Beilstein-Institut, a non-profit foundation located in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Editor-in-chief is Professor Thomas Schimmel, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

The Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology publishes original articles on all aspects of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. It provides a broad coverage of both fundamental and applied research, including aspects of chemistry, physics and biology as well as materials science and engineering. The scope of the journal includes experimental and theoretical aspects as well as Nanotechnology applications.

The Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology publishes peer-reviewed Full Research Papers, Letters, Reviews, Book Reports and Commentaries. In addition, it provides a platform for publishing Thematic Series on topical issues of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.

The scope of the Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology includes but is not limited to topics such as:

    The publication of articles in the Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology is free of charge. The journal is published and financed by the Beilstein-Institut and therefore publishing in the journal is offered without the imposition of any author fees or other publication charges.
  • General Publication Criteria
    The main criteria for acceptance of an article for publication in the Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology are high quality, originality, novelty and importance.
  • Peer Review
    All articles published in the journal are fully refereed prior to acceptance. Detailed information about the review process is given in the Instructions for Referees. The editor-in-chief or an associate editor makes a final decision on the manuscript based on the referees' recommendations.
  • No Page Limit
    There is no page limit for articles in the Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology. Authors should provide enough background information to support the aim of study and the main claims of the paper, but unimportant or trivial information should not be included. The article length should be commensurate with its scientific content.
  • Authors Retain Copyright
    Authors retain copyright of their articles. The articles of the Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.
  • Detailed Experimental Data
    It is the intention of the Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology to publish articles with detailed descriptions of experimental data and procedures.

Article Types

The Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology publishes the following article types:

  • Full Research Paper
    reports of results from original research
  • Letter
    brief reports of results from original research
  • Review
    comprehensive and authoritative summarization of any subject within the scope of the journal
  • Book Report
    short summaries of the strengths and weaknesses of a book with evaluation of its overall usefulness to the intended audience
  • Commentary
    short, focused and opinion-oriented articles on any subject within the scope of the journal. These articles are usually related to a contemporary issue, such as recent research findings, and are usually written by leading experts

Submission of Manuscripts
