About the journal

Applied Optics Editor-in-Chief: Joseph N. Mait, US Army Research Laboratory ISSN: 1559-128X (print) ISSN: 2155-3165 (online) 36 issues per year
About AO
Publishing three times each month, Applied Optics emphasizes applications-centered research in optics, moving the potential of science and technology to the practical. Articles provide increased understanding of an existing topic, rather than solely introducing new science or physics. These articles provide in-depth discussions of material and report on the development and performance of technologies when applying theories. Each issue contains content from three divisions of editorial scope: Optical Technology; Information Processing; and Lasers, Photonics, and Environmental Optics. Topics include but are not limited to:
- 3-D sensing, processing, and display
- Instrumentation, measurement, and metrology
- Imaging systems
- Lasers and laser optics
- Fiber optics and optical communications
- Image processing
- Holography
- Lidar and remote sensing
- Laser materials processing
Instructions to Authors
Information for OSA Journal Authors
OSA welcomes submissions of research articles to its journals. Authors are encouraged to review the individual journal descriptions when choosing an appropriate publication for their submission (see Journal Descriptions).
Notes
JON/JOCN authors should consult the JOCN Author page.
New Templates for Applied Optics, JOSA A, and JOSA B. New templates are available for Word and RevTeX submissions to Applied Optics, JOSA A, and JOSA B (see Manuscript Templates). Feedback is welcome (beta@osa.org).
Submitting to Energy Express supplement? All submissions to the Energy Express supplement should follow Optics Express submission guidelines.
