Peer Review Process

Reviewers are prominent scientists and experts with an established scientific record which guarantees their competency in reviewing scientific papers.

The review process is secret and classified and is generally completed in two months.

After a paper has been submitted, the Reviewer Selection Committee, which consists up to three members of the Editorial Board and the Chief Editor, decides on the paper acceptability. If the submitted paper satisfies the submission requirements, reviewers are selected and appointed for review.

Every submission is reviewed by two to three reviewers. At least one of them is an internationally acclaimed reviewer.

The review criterion is the scientific and formal appropriateness to the journal mission. Papers are evaluated as good, acceptable or bad.

Based on the relevant factors of the paper evaluation, reviewers submit one of three possible propositions: paper is acceptable for publication; paper requires changes and additions; paper is not acceptable for publication.

In case two reviewers submit a negative evaluation of a paper, the submitting author is informed that the paper was not accepted for publication.

An additional review is required in case a paper has only one negative evaluation. The additional review is performed by a new reviewer or a member the Editorial Board.

Opinions and suggestions of the reviewers are sent to the author who is then obliged, together with other authors, make the necessary adjustments according to the reviewers’ instructions.

In case the authors disagree with the suggestions made by reviewers, the Chief Editor reconciles the different opinions.

The final decision on paper publication is made at the meeting of the Editorial Board.

Publication Frequency

New issue is published every two months.

Submissions accepted by the Editorial Board will be included in one of the future issues.

The submission publication schedule depends on the following criteria:

  1. Assigned submission section (immediate subject of traffic and transport technology)
  2. Evaluation of scientific and formal appropriateness
  3. Classification (original scientific paper, preliminary communication, review)

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

The Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences at the University of Zagreb would like to see the journal PROMET – Traffic&Transportation become a place of discussion and contemplation on new ideas by scientists and experts in the field of traffic and transport technology.

Therefore we have decided to provide free and open access in order to provide all walks of scientists, researchers and individuals with new ideas a place where they can publish and protect their work.

How to prepare yourself before submitting a paper for publication

Answer the following questions:

  1. What inspired me to write this paper? (Hypothesis)
  2. What did I do?
  3. What are the results?
  4. What do the results mean? (Discussion and conclusion)

What to have in mind when submitting a paper for publication

  • A scientific publication is both science and art
  • The publication is intended for the world at large
  • It is ten times more likely than someone will read the title and the abstract then the entire article
  • First think what do you want to present and then write it in the simplest way possible (consider with your heart, write with your head)

The basic assumption required for the publication of a paper is the highest ethical standard of the author. This refers to the following:

  • Authors must be honest with themselves and their work
  • All co-authors must make a significant contribution and are responsible for the paper
  • Authors must carefully investigate references
  • Authors should not submit a single paper to multiple addresses
  • Authors should not try to conceal a conflict of interest

Author Guidelines

The submission of a paper is considered as author's guarantee that the paper had not been published before and that its publishing does not violate the copyright laws. Any paper that had been presented at a symposium or a conference and published in full in the Proceedings in printed or electronic form are regarded as published papers. The author(s) must indicate if their paper has been posted on a "working paper" website other than their own. On acceptance, the text, or any link to full text, must be removed from the "working paper" website other than the author's own website.

The papers shall be accepted for publishing only after the author has modified the paper in compliance with the reviewers' and editorial's remarks. The author shall be responsible for all the data presented in the published paper.

The paper shall be submitted at http://www.fpz.unizg.hr/traffic/index.php/PROMTT. The paper shall be uploaded in English, leaving out the data about the author(s). After the paper is accepted for publishing, the author(s) shall be asked to submit a version of the title, abstract and key words in their native tongue which will be included in the published version.

Preparation of the paper

1) Text shall be grammatically correct, free of spelling mistakes, written in one column using WordOffice text processing program. Margins 2.5 cm, font Times New Roman (size 12 for text, size 14 for chapter titles, size 16 for the title of the paper) and single line spacing shall be used. Scope (including figures and drawings) shall be limited to 12 pages. Pages have to be numbered.

2) Title shall describe accurately, clearly and concisely, in as few words as possible, the content of the paper. It shall be understandable for subsequent processing of the paper in indices and abstracts, where the title is the basis for the classification into the scientific areas and fields;

3) Abstract is a concise preview of the entire paper. It shall provide the reader with brief information on the purpose and objective of research, new findings, methodology, achieved results and conclusions. The abstract shall contain up to 150 words with no formulae nor bibliography.

4) Key words shall provide the reader with an at-a-glance identification of the purpose and object of research. Key words should be separated by a semicolon (;).

5) For the sake of concision, the paper shall be divided into numbered chapters beginning with an introduction and ending with a conclusion;

  • Introduction shall contain the information on the topic (ideas), procedures and achieved results of the object of research and the reader does not necessarily have to have previous knowledge of the field of research. The purpose and objective of research have to be clearly described providing also an evaluation of the past research;
  • Basic hypothesis proven in the paper i.e. research of the author(s), shall be logically developed with consistent progression.
  • Research results and presentation of methods refer only to those that are the main ones and representative ones that contain author's conclusions regarding the object of research.
  • Discussion shall speak about the significance and meaning of the research results. By explaining the research results, the basic hypotheses can be formulated. The purpose of the discussion is to present the relations between the observed (identified) results and the facts.
  • Conclusion shall contain clearly claimed statements of the author(s) and possible open issues as well as recommendations for further research.

6) A note to the authors who are not native English speakers: there is no full stop following the years; thousands, millions, etc. are divided by a comma – 2,340,532; milliards are designated as bn (billion); decimal numbers are written with a full stop (point) – 1.45

7) Abbreviations shall be explained at first mentioning in the text.

8) Formulae and equations shall be preferably written in one line with adequate numbering on the right of the line in brackets: (1). The equations must be clear, compact and free of any ambiguity. For all the used physical values their names shall be indicated (possibly also the measuring units), and less known physical values shall be also explained in terms. The indices, sub- and super-scripts, shall be written in a clear manner. Superscripts need to be avoided so as prevent confusing them with numerical exponents.

9) The application of SI (International System of Units of Measurement) is obligatory, with or without the adequate prefix. The legally approved old measuring units, not coherent with SI can be indicated in brackets along with the SI units.

10) Figures must be accompanied by a caption and numbered, and the source shall be indicated underneath. All drawings and photos are printed only in black-and-white. The Internet contributions should be avoided because of poor print quality.

11) Tables shall contain only data that are essential for the understanding of the text. The tables shall be accompanied by a caption and numbered. The source of data shall be indicated underneath.

12) References shall be listed in order as it appears in the text, at the end of the paper in compliance with Vancouver Citation Style (http://library.vcc.ca/downloads/VCC_VancouverStyleGuide.pdf). The reference numbering in the text is written in square brackets: [1]
