About the journal

Geofisica Internacional is a scientific quarterly journal which prints original unpublished material of interest to our readership-primarily, the geophysical community of Latin America. The contributions are not necessarily about Latin America. Research papers, review papers, short notes, and book reviews are welcomed.
La serie de Cuadernos del Instituto de Geofísica (CIG)de la UNAM son publicaciones de difusión sobre los aspectos más relevantes de la actividad científica, tecnológica y docente de las diversas disciplinas de Geociencias.
Los CIG son publicaciones cuyo propósitos es poner al alcance del público en general las experiencias y conocimientos del personal de investigación de este instituto y de otros institutos o centros de investigación.
Las publicaciones pueden ser:
Publicaciones de actualización en temas de Geociencias publicadas con anterioridad.
Publicaciones con contribuciones y avances recientes en las disciplinas de Ciencias de la Tierra.
Innovaciones de la Ciencia.
Contribuciones para la enseñanza de Ciencias de la Tierra
Instructions to Authors
Manuscripts should be submitted to the Editor in Chief or to the Sección Editorial (silvia@geofisica.unam.mx)via internet, preferably prepared with MS Word and formatted with wide margins and double spacing and a complete a pdf full text file (figures included).
Footnotes to the text should be avoided.
Peer review: all material will be reviewed, usually by two independent specialists. All decisions of the Editor shall be final. In the interest of the readership, the cooperation of the authors in speeding up the review requests (for modifications in the manuscript) is appreciated. If there is a conflict of interest with the Editor in chief, the associate Editor or one of the juries, the author could ask for a different evaluator.
Detailed instructions
Title: The first page should include, in order, the following information:
- complete title of the paper (first line) - authors name (second line) - affiliation, e-mail and present postal address; the corresponding author must be clearly identified by an asterisk (third line)
Abstract: Please provide a concise abstract (not exceeding 250 words) in English and Spanish. In addition, up to 6 key words describing the contents should be provided.
References: The accepted style of references in the text should indicate, (within parenthesis) the last name of the author and the year of publication. If there are more than two authors, the last name of the first author should be followed by et al. When such name form part of the content of the article, and do not appear solely as a reference, the year of the publication is parenthesized.
In the reference section at the end of the paper the accepted style is: Authors, year, title, abbreviated journal or publisher, volume, pages. List the references in alphabetical order. Authors are encouraged to adjust to our citation system.
Units: the International System of Units (m,kg,s,k) should be used.
Equations: Please print the equations as carefully as possible, using the same fonts and sizes as desired to appear in the final printed version. Variables are italicized both in the equations and in the text. Unusual symbols should be identified in the margin.
Illustrations and tables: Authors are strongly encouraged to submit figures in digital format. Please number all graphic material and refer to them in the text as Fig. (and the arabic number). Captions are to be provided separately. The following digital file formats are accepted: For photographs and other raster files, native Adobe Photoshop or tiff (with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi) images should be used. Any other illustrations should be submitted as Adobe Illustrator. If these are not available, please export the illustrations as Macintosh Encapsulated Postscript files (eps or jpg). Illustrations which do not meet these guidelines will not be accepted.
Maps should preferably be oriented so that the meridian through the center of the drawing is parallel to the sides. Figure legends should be printed on a separated sheet of paper. All figures should be on a separated sheet of paper, numbered (by arabic numbers) and specifically mentioned in the text.
Color figures can be accepted providing the page costs. Please note that page charges are very accessible. Please consult the publisher information at elidit@geofisica.unam.mx.
Galley proofs: Please correct your gallery proofs immediately, using conventional proof readers marks. The only changes that could be accepted in proofs are on grammar or related to printing errors.
Reprints: Twenty reprints are supplied free of charge. Additional reprints may be ordered when returning the galley proofs for an additional cost.
