About the journal

Genetic Testing and Molecular Biomarkers is the leading peer-reviewed journal covering all aspects of genetic testing including molecular biomarkers. This journal is a forum for the development of new technology; the application of testing to decision making in an increasingly varied set of clinical situations; ethical, legal, social, and economic aspects of genetic testing; and issues concerning effective genetic counseling.

With more than 3,000 genes identified, and over 4,000 diseases caused by genetic defects, genetic testing has become an increasingly important part of medical practice. For many inherited diseases, genetic testing provides the definitive diagnosis. GTMB is the definitive resource for molecular geneticists, genetic counselors, researchers, clinicians, and scientists who develop, perform, and interpret genetic tests and their results.

Topics covered include:
*Diagnosis across the life span
*Risk assessment
*Carrier detection in individuals, couples, and populations
*Novel methods and new instrumentation for genetic testing
*Results of molecular, biochemical, and cytogenetic testing
*Genetic counseling
*Ethical, legal, and economic issues

Indexed/Abstracted in:

MEDLINE; Current Contents/Life Sciences; Current Contents/Clinical Medicine; EMBASE/Excerpta Medica; Science Citation Index Expanded; BIOSIS Previews; Biotechnology Citation Index; Biological Abstracts; EMBiology; Scopus; CAB Abstracts

Instructions to Authors

Genetic Testing and Molecular Biomarkers publishes original papers on all aspects of genetic testing, including prenatal diagnosis, risk assessment, clinical consequences of molecular genetics, results of population screens and targeted testing, methodologies, strategies and ethical and legal issues.

All new manuscripts must be submitted online at:

http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/genetic-testing

Please read all the instructions to authors before submitting.

Manuscript Submission and Copyright Agreement Form

The Copyright Agreement form (available from web site at http://www.liebertpub.com/media/content/transfer_of_copyright.pdf.) should be submitted once your paper has been accepted for publication. Manuscripts cannot be published without this form. The corresponding author is responsible for obtaining signatures of coauthors. Authors not permitted to release copyright must still return the form signed under the statement of the reason for not releasing the copyright. Upon acceptance of your paper, please fax the Copyright Agreement form to 914-740-2108.

PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPT

Online submission of the manuscript is required, in either PC (preferred) or Macintosh format, preferably in Microsoft Word or Word Perfect.

The manuscript should be double-spaced with a minimum 1.25 inch margin. On the first page, give the title of the paper, name(s) of the author(s), and institutional affiliations(s). Please also indicate the corresponding author and full contact information, including e-mail address, and supply a running title of about 45 characters. On the second page, supply an Abstract of about 200 words, stating the aims, results, and conclusions. Subsequent pages should provide the following in sequence: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgments, References, tables, and figure legends. Number pages consecutively. The first author’s last name should appear on each page. A separate page should include the full mailing address and contact information (telephone, fax, and e-mail address) for each author listed on the title page. Authors should also include the names, affiliations, and e-mail addresses of at least 3 reviewers. Please follow this protocol to avoid delay in processing.  Please bear in mind that Genetic Testing and Molecular Biomarkers will not accept case reports or case studies of any kind.  Please do not submit them as original articles.

TABLES AND ILLUSTRATIONS

Prepare each table with its caption in a separate file. Use arabic numerals to number tables. Do not repeat information that is given in the text, and do not make a table for data that can be given in the text in one or two sentences.

The Journal will publish color photographs, but the author will be charged for the cost of color separations and printing. The Publisher will provide the author with a more precise cost estimate when the figures are received. For further details, contact the Editor or Publisher.

Please follow these guidelines for submitting figures:

  • Do NOT embed art files into a Word or PDF document. Figures provided in this format cannot be used for production purposes.
  • Line illustrations should be submitted at 600 dpi.
  • Halftones and color should be submitted at a minimum of 300 dpi.
  • Save as either TIFF or EPS files. JPEG files are for screen representation-quality only and will print very poorly during the printing process. To ensure proper print quality, please submit only TIFF or EPS files.
  • Color art must be saved as CYMK - not RGB. (NB: If RGB files are submitted, the files will be converted to CYMK and some color variation will occur.)
  • Black and white art must be submitted as grayscale â€?not RGB.
  • Do NOT submit PowerPoint, PDF, Bitmap or Excel figure or table files. When naming your figure and table files, please label them with the main author’s last name, followed by a period (.), and then list the figure number. Ex: Smith.Fig1; Smith.Table1. Label figures and tables inside the files in addition to naming the file with the figure or table number. (ie: When figures or table files are opened, the figure or table number should appear inside the file.)

In order to expedite your submission as quickly and efficiently as possible we ask that all artwork be checked using Digital Expert before submitting. This is a free tool that will ensure that you prepare and submit quality digital materials suitable for print.

Go to http://dx.sheridan.com to check your image files.

You will be given directions on how to correct any files which do not pass.

REMINDER

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR MAIN MANUSCRIPT TEXT FILE
CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING:

  • A title page which includes the title of the paper, as well as ALL author’s names, affilliations, e-mail addresses, and contact information.
  • An abstract (uploading your abstract into the appropriate field in Manuscript Cental will NOT automatically incorporate it into the text file, so, please include the abstract within the manuscript file).
  • References section correctly formatted (see examples).
  • Tables and figures should be uploaded as individual files.
  • Do NOT upload a PDF of your text file.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT ART FILES

Converting Word or Excel files: Perhaps the best and easiest way to convert Word or Excel files into a format which is suitable for print is to scan them using the below guidelines:

  • All files should be scanned at 100% size.
  • 300 dpi
  • Final color mode: CMYK
  • save file as: .tif or .eps

If you need directions on how to convert a Power Point slide to acceptable format go to http://www.liebertpub.com/MEDIA/pdf/ppconvert.pdf

IMPORTANT:

Please upload individual files of all manuscript material ,do NOT upload a single PDF file containing all text, figure, and table files of your paper. Once all individual files are uploaded on to Manuscript Central, the system will automatically create a single PDF proof for you and the peer-review process.

REFERENCES

Within the text, all references should be cited by authors and dates. Reference citations are not permitted in the abstract of a paper. If more than two authors are involved, use et al. after the first author’s name. If several papers by the same authors in the same year are cited in one sentence, use a lower case letter designation to indicate the individual papers. (Dunn and Studier, 1973a, 1973b). Use the same designation in the reference list. In the References section, each item should be double-spaced and listed in alphabetical order at the end of the paper. Each reference should include all authors‘names and the complete title of the cited paper. If more than three authors are involved, use et al. after the third author’s name. When data from an unpublished source are given, supply the researcher‘s name. If the work is in press, give the journal in which it is to be published or the name of the publisher. Abbreviation of journal names should follow the style of MEDLINE.

In the References list, citations should include all authors and the complete title in the following style (as in the American Journal of Human Genetics):

Journal article:
Lagoe E, LaBella S, Arnold G, et al. (2005) Cystic fibrosis newborn screening: A pilot study to maximize carrier screening. Genet Test 9:255-60.

Book:

Peters DJM, Sandkuijl LA (1992) Genetic heterogeneity of polycystic kidney disease in Europe. In: Breuning MH, Devoto M, Romeo G (eds) Contributions to nephrology: Polycystic kidney disease. Karger, Basel, pp 128-39.

ISCLOSURE STATEMENT

Immediately following the Acknowledgments section, include a section entitled Author Disclosure Statement.

In this portion of the paper, authors must disclose any commercial associations that might create a conflict of interest in connection with submitted manuscripts. This statement should include appropriate information for EACH author, thereby representing that competing financial interests of all authors have been appropriately disclosed according to the policy of the Journal. It is important that all conflicts of interest, whether they are actual or potential, be disclosed. This information will remain confidential while the paper is being reviewed and will not influence the editorial decision.

Please see the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals at http://www.icmje.org/index.html#conflicts for further guidance.

If no conflicts exist, the authors must state ˜No competing financial interests exist.“

PERMISSIONS

The author must obtain permission whenever it is required in conjunction with the reproduction of material such as figures and tables from copyrighted material. Written permission must be obtained from the publisher of the journal or book concerned. The publication from which the figure or table is taken must be listed in the reference list. Finally, a footnote of a reprinted table, or of the legend of a reprinted figure should read, “reprinted by permission from Jones et all and list the appropriate reference. All permissions listings must be shown in the manuscript, they cannot be entered on proofs. Manuscripts submitted to this Journal must not be under consideration elsewhere.

REPRINTS

Reprints may be ordered by using the special reprint order form that will accompany the proofs. Reprints ordered after the issue is printed will be charged at a higher rate.
