About the journal

Cerneais a publication of the Renewable Natural Resources Studies Center, linked to the Department of Forestry Sciences of the Federal University of Lavras, aiming at publishing original scientific works to contribute to the scientific development of the Forest Sciences and similar areas. Researches to be published may be submitted either in Portuguese, English or Spanish.

Submitting a paper implies that the authors accept the guidelines of the journal and that they are not submitting the paper for publication in any other journal. It also implies that during the development of the study, the authors respect and follow the rules and legislation regarding ethics and copyright.

The articles (papers) published at the Cerne are total author's responsibility.

The author(s) retain author's rights for future publications but the journal is permitted to reproduce its articles.

Periodicidade: De 1994 a 1998: Anual

                     De 1999 a 2004: Semestral

                     A partir de 2005: Trimestral


Instructions to Authors

ANALYSIS OF THE PAPERS

All the papers will undergo a preliminary evaluation by the Editorial Board. In the preliminary analysis the manuscript may not be accepted for revision. Manuscripts accepted for revision will be submitted to the analysis of, at least, two specialist reviewers (referees). Based on the reviewers�opinions, the editorial commission decides, finally, if the manuscript should or not be published.

 

SUBMISSION :

 

Original: The manuscript may be sent in a digital file by e-mail or in CD/DVD by mail.

Format: Word for Windows

Spacing of the text: double, lateral margins, inferior and superiors of three centimeters

Paper:  A4 format

Source: Times New Roman, size 12

Number of pages: up to 16 pages, numbered consecutively, including the illustrations

Tables: Tables should be part of the body of the paper and they must be presented in   Word or Excel. The title should be above and be presented in the language in which the article was written and in English. The vertical lines separating the columns should not appear.

Symbols and Chemical Formula: must be presented using a word processor that permits a format Page Maker.

 

STRUCTURE  AND  ORGANIZATION

The article should be presented in the following sequence:

Title: in English language, containing no more than 15 words in capital letters and bold.

Authors: full names, with call for baseboard note with the following information: author's profession  and academic titles and name of the institution to which the authors belong, followed by the address, ZIP CODE, city, state and e-mail address.

Abstract: should be informative and condensed and should explain the objectives, material and methods, results and conclusion of the work in a maximum of 250 words all written in one paragraph.

For articles written in English the abstract should also be presented in Portuguese.

Key words: minimum of three and maximum of five. They should not repeat words that are already in the title. These may include phrases as well as individual words and should be separate by commas.

For articles written in English the key-words should also be presented in Portuguese.

 

1. Introduction: should present a concise vision of the current level of knowledge that has been achieved within the subject area that the paper will discuss. It should neither give an extensive review nor should it include details about the results and discussion. It should clearly indicate the objectives of the research that was carried out. This section can not contain sub-titles.

2. Material and Methods: this section can contain subdivisions, with subtitles in bold print.

3. Results and Discussion: this section can have subsection which begins with concise, descriptive titles in bold print.

4. Conclusions (optional)

5. Acknowledgements (if applicable)

6. Bibliographical references: they should follow citation norms both in the text and in the appropriated section.

The items Abstract and key-words should be located in the beginning of the left margin of the text and the other items must be centralized. The sub-items should be preceded of two Arabic numerals, initiated with capital letters and positioned in the left margin of the text.

 

CITATIONS  IN  THE  TEXT

The authors�citations in the text, according to the following examples:

d) In case of more than two authors, only the last name of the first one is mentioned, follow by et al. (no italic): Rezende et al. (2002) or (REZENDE et al., 2002)

 BIBLIOGRAPHICAL  REFERENCES

The references are ruled according to ABNT (NBR 6023). They should be presented in the following way:
