About the journal
Aims and Scope
Archives of Acoustics, the peer-reviewed quarterly journal publishes original research papers from all areas of acoustics like: physiological acoustics,
psychoacoustics,
speech production and perception,
speech processing and communication systems,
acoustics of musics,
bioacoustics,
architectural, building and environmental acoustics,
noise and vibration,
acoustical measurements and instrumentation,
electroacoustics,
transducers,
linear and nonlinear acoustics,
ultrasonics,
underwater acoustics,
quantum acoustics,
physical and chemical effects of sound,
acousto-optics.
Archives of Acoustics was founded in 1976 as an international journal, however its early international distribution was limited. Since 2004 it provides free internet access to abstracts of all research papers published from 1991 to 2007 and to the full content of volumes published in years 2000-2006.
Since 2003, in addition to original research papers and their abstracts, the Journal has been publishing full abstracts of papers presented at specialized international acoustical conferences organized regularly in Poland. Selected volumes contain abstracts from the following such meetings:
International Conference "Noise-Control" - 4 days every 3 years (see: 2004);
International Symposium on Sound Engineering and Tonmeistering - 4 days every 2 years (see: 2004);
International Conference on Subjective and Objective Sound Assessment - 5 days every 3 years (see: 2004);
Speech Analysis, Synthesis, and Recognition - International symposium - 5 days every 3 years. These symposia in future will be mostly concerned with speech prosody (see: 2003, 2005);
Winter School of Wave and Quantum Acoustics. International symposium - 5 days every year in February/March (see: 2005, 2006);
Winter School of Vibroacoustical Hazards Suppresion. International symposium - 5 days every year in February/March (see: 2005, 2006);
Acoustical and Biomedical Engineering. International symposium - 5 days every year in High Tatra (see: 2005);
Symposium on Hydroacoustics. Either international, or (every second year) Polish with international participation; 4 days in September; (see: 2003, 2004, 2005); Open Seminar on Acoustics (OSA). All-acoustics Polish symposium with international participation - 5 days every year in September (see: 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005).
Instructions to Authors
ARCHIVES OF ACOUSTICS, the journal of Polish Academy of Sciences (a quarterly founded in 1976), publishes original papers concerning all fields of acoustics. Basically, the papers should not exceed 40 000 typographic signs (about 20 typewritten pages) and should be submitted in two copies.
The submitted papers must be written in English.
Special care must be attached to the following rules:
The title of the paper should be as short as possible.
The text should be preceded by an abstract (less than 200 words), key words and a brief introduction; it is also desirable to include a list of notations used in the paper.
The formulae to be numbered are those referred to in the paper, as well as the final formulae. The formula number should be written on the right-hand side of the formula in round brackets.
All notations should be written very distinctly. Special care must be taken to write small and capital letters as precisely as possible. Explanations should be given on the margin of the manuscript in case of a special type face.
Vectors should be denoted by semi-bold type. Trigonometric functions are denoted by sin, cos, tan and cot, inverse trigonometric functions - by arcsin, arccos, arctan and arccot; hyperbolic functions are denoted by sinh, cosh, tanh and coth.
Items appearing in the reference list should include the surname and the initials of the first name of the author, the full title of the paper/book in English followed by the information on the original paper language (in parentheses).
In case of a book, the publisher's name, the place and year of publication should be given.
In case of a periodical, the full title of the periodical, consecutive volume number, current issue number, pages, and year of publication should be given; the annual volume number must be semi-bold so as to distinguish it from the current issue number.
The electronic form of the manuscript should be sent in a form of a diskette, CD-R or e-mail and must contain all updates and other information that the final hard copy manuscript contains. High-quality illustrations (format PCX, bitmap or PostScript, with resolution no lower than 300 dpi) should be sent along with the manuscript. After publication the number of Archives of Acoustics and CD-rom containing PDF version of article will be sent to authors.
